Molineux Extension

The E&S understands. Also known as it's what Spiers has been saying for months so I'd better parrot it.

Noticed recently within a couple of hours of Tim Spiers uploading an article to The Athletic it’s been copy and pasted into a news article on the E&S site. Must piss him off.

He's getting paid more, seems to have improved contacts and is writing better, more informative articles so I doubt he cares too much. I can't imagine he feels too threatened by Joey. I don't know how their UK subscriptions are doing so that's the only thing he has to worry about.

Better to a point, his opinions are still frequently awful. As I said last week, calling a pretty good team "rag tag cloggers" was way out of order.

What can they possibly do with the Steve Bull using the existing structure? It needs to be knocked down surely.

Spiers said it would be about reconfiguring it. It'll still be ripped apart, just not knocked down. They believe they can get more seats in there than they currently have and want to make the boxes better so that they can sit outside. Also looking at how they fix the roof so that it doesn't obscure the NB seats which they can't sell. There's a few architects and planners on here that'll be able to say how feasible/cost effective that is. Or whether he's spouting rubbish

They need to do something with the access too, it's terrible.

Kenny and I have started going to the ground early (part good luck charm, part getting fucked off with how you can't get a pint after 1.45pm in the pub, fuck off people, you weren't here before) but when we were going down as normal, it's getting proper dangerous.

Try to buy the uni out of the Feathers - they don't even seem to use it - knock that down and level the area would be a quick fix.

didn't United go for the cut and carve with OT rather than all new? To be honest anything you do to the Steve Bull amounts to rolling it in glitter its not fit for purpose, I'm not sure what you'll get for your money but any meaningful improvements would be very costly

It might mean that maybe the South Bank would be extended first as that might be more logistically feasible to build behind it.

You know a fair bit about this stuff mate - could you feasibly make the Billy Wright triple tier (not you personally :D )?

I only think we need another 5-10k worth of capacity, facilities are a different question.

The queues and access for the Steve Bull now with the increased demand is a nightmare. Then the queues block access for those heading that way on their way to other parts of the ground plus the fanzone by the subway and various catering vans have had an adverse on access in that vicinity too

Not been in the Steve Bull that often, but find it hard to see how you could upgrade that to a reasonable level without spending almost as much as removing it & rebuilding

The concourse area is dreadful too. I like the stand and my ST has always been in there but it is showing every one of its 41 years, I often think on what it would be like if it needed to be evacuated quickly

You'd need to build out from the back in order to increase the concourse area and toilets, but that'd make the queuing that DW mentioned even worse unless you drastically increase the number of turnstiles as well.

You can do anything for the right price!

It would need the foundations to be adequate to take the additional loadings, if they were not then I would imagine the cost would be prohibitive. If they were then it would be, reasonably straight forward, although still a big job. Not sure how high you could go as you'd have to come out at the rear of the stand and there are some pinch points there already, also the stand would be out of action for some time as youd be tieing into the existing structure

To me just looking at it the South bank would be the easiest to build another tier behind, that would help with capacity if you ever pushed the button on the Steve Bull

I've never done stadia but I do know that its an extremely risky sector, and precovid not particularly appealing to many contractors. I know Buckinghams caught a cold on the North Bank

The Uni have been very aggressive in land acquisition, no way are they giving anything up easily

The more I think about it and the more I hear I think they will go for putting an additional tier onto existing stands. It won't improve the experience much for existing fans and they will probably be like OT with upper tiers that have separate access and concourses.

It makes financial sense although I would hope they try to find some more space in the Steve Bull

If you put an extra tier on the Billy Wright and presumably have to go out backwards a bit to do then it would be as pressed against the Waterloo Road as the old stand was. There isn't a whole lot of room there.

Remember post Sir Jacks rebuild it was definitely said that the stands were built in such a way additional tiers could be added.

Could Waterloo Road run underneath it slightly (bit like the Trinity Road stand at Villa)

Did someone mention on here that the club, with the council, were looking at the possibiility of closing the Waterloo Road permanently? (the section they currently close on a Match Day)

Didn't they implement a new queuing system for the last few games before everything stopped?

Sure it was designed to stop Molineux Street being blocked from getting down towards the Northbank etc by people queuing for the Steve Bull Upper.

How did it go? Can't think I ventured that way for a while.
