Molineux Extension

While my post was in slight jest, think we have to recognise while Wolves is the be all and end all to us its not the case for everyone in and around the city. I'm sure there'd be quite a few objects to closing a main route into the City Centre.

What purpose would it solve from Wolves point of view? I can't remember reading they wanted to have it closed and can't really understand why they would want to?

Not so much a main route. Wouldn't stop access to Asda etc.

I presume it has been looked at to help with expansion on that Stand and to keep the area from the North Bank to the South Bank End traffic free at all times (apart from emergency access of course). I'm sure all things around the Stadium with a view to expanding will be looked at and doesn't mean it will ever get past an option on someones list.

Didn't they implement a new queuing system for the last few games before everything stopped?

Sure it was designed to stop Molineux Street being blocked from getting down towards the Northbank etc by people queuing for the Steve Bull Upper.

How did it go? Can't think I ventured that way for a while.

They put some posts and ribbons up the South Bank end of the turnstiles which stopped people heading from the subway heading right for the turnstiles. I was fairly early turning up so didn't really see much benefit to it

To add any real meaningful capacity without demolition you end up doing similar to Liverpool recently, or Walsall previously on a smaller scale, and building something else behind the existing stand then flying over the top of it with another tier. It'll give you extra capacity but it doesn't really do anything to alleviate other issues, in this case you'll still have some shonky gaps between stands and the pitch, still have awkward concourses in the older stands you've built around/above and you'll only add to the problems around the outside of the ground by stealing circulation space for the footprint of the new structures.

It wouldn't be my preferred route, obviously would have the least impact on existing operations but gives you a significantly worse product at the end compared to knocking bits down and doing a proper job of it with newly built stands. I imagine those sort of schemes would be a right pain from the point of view of the construction industries current best friend, fire strategy, having a proper fire boundary between the two structures that intertwine, maintaining fire escapes from the older part of the stand both through construction and then through the new structure when it's complete.

With the footing of the Steve Bull stand and the North Bank being so different, surely the Steve Bull would require a complete rebuild on the Terrace side due to the angle difference of the terrace between the two stands

The concourse area is dreadful too. I like the stand and my ST has always been in there but it is showing every one of its 41 years, I often think on what it would be like if it needed to be evacuated quickly

There is one fire exit by J1, don't know where it takes you as I've never seen it open. But yeah the Steve Bull is fucking awful, I love my seat and I love the crowd around us but the stand itself is rank.

This x 100

I wish that I made us sit in North Bank when we got our ST as the others didn't care. Lose the vibe (I reckon Steve Bull is just as loud as South Bank now :D), gain everything else - the ability to have a quick wee and not share your seat with the fat bloke next to you, can you imagine it!?

I suggested they permanently close the Waterloo road to Traffic last year, there is no reason really not to.
It was there before the ring road, so instead of turning left you would go straight up past the South Bank, and Turn Left.

It's very doable. Same with the Steve Bull, the road goes no where now so just do away with it.
The south bank has lots of room at the back, easy to build that.

Asda would be less than impressed as traffic from one side of town (where there is a massive Sainsbury’s now) have to go through a right faff to get to the competition. It would be massively opposed by them.

They can always move to a bigger piece of land...

I'd have thought people Asda side of town go to Asda, sainsburys side go there because they're closer I wouldn't be sitting in traffic and driving around town just to go shopping

I’m Asda side and would still go to Morrison’s. Probably as it is 500 yards away!

Derby have outline planning permission to expand their stadium, not capacity wise but adding a food court and bars to the East Stand open during the week and a fan park on matchdays, maybe as part of re-modelling the Steve Bull we could do something along those lines to expand the concourse and make the stand more hospitable, add extra turnstiles to bin the congestion outside The Feathers.

There's all that dead space underneath the offices where if you had the turnstiles entrance where the steps are now you've got a much bigger space because Molineux is city centre it'd be pointless having something open in the week but it could drastically improve the stand.

Is the East Stand the one next to the main car park adjacent to Derby Arena?

Will they then sell that extension to themselves for £45m?

State of the pinch point on those steps.

Just curious - is there a trend towards bars and food courts within modern football stadia, and if so do they get much use outside of matchdays?
