VAR

Doesn't matter is 1 or 5 people are in the area though. Coady was 1 of them and therefore he is deemed to have gained an advantage in being able to clear the ball.

They were all seeking to gain an advatage

Didn’t Van Dijk handle the ball before hoofing the ball up to Lallana.

If he did it was accidental so would not be looked at as it didn't directly lead to the goal.

The implementation of VAR in England was utterly ill-thought-out and, as a consequence, its impact on the game has gone beyond its original brief.

Fortunately, it’s in everyone’s best interest to find a solution, whether that comes from streamlining or rethinking its use through trial and error or even amending the existing Laws of the game. How long that takes is anyone’s guess, but in its current form VAR simply isn’t fit for purpose.

The issue on the Lallana hand ball is the ref blew his whistle before they scored. 100% convinced on that as Lallana is already appealling to the ref he didn't handball before the ball hit the net. So the goal should have been ruled out, just like Jota's at Bournemouth.

A couple of additional decisions that could have gone our way - non review of the goal v Everton, and Jota's goal v Bournemouth that was ruled offside, which wasn't.

The Jota offside is a refereeing mistake, not a VAR one though. The Everton goal looked off, but Doncks against then at Molineux looked close too

The Everton one will always baffle me. Jota's down to shite reffing on the pitch.

We were told that diving would increasingly be punished retrospectively if not spotted in real time.

I look forward to Alonso's three match ban then.

I know what you mean, but VAR means V.A.Referee, so surely it's just as responsible. Linesmen are called Assistant Refs these days as they give decisions on offsides and foul play as well as line calls, so they are responsible too.

The issue was the referee more than the linesman. The linesman raised his flag for offside incorrectly, but the ref is supposed to not blow the whistle until the ball is in the net in those instances. He did though so the play becomes dead and nothing VAR can do in either the way it's implemented now or in the future. Augbameyang scored a similar one against Man Utd, but in that instance the goal was given by VAR because the ref handled it correctly

My main issues:

1. Get rid of the new handball rule;
2. Judge offside using your eyes, not lines; and
3. Speed up the process.

Without changes, (1) and (2) give a disproportionate advantage to the defending team - my main issue is VAR has become a way to take goals off teams in circumstances where no team would have complained about the goal being given. There's a world of difference between Boly spannering a cross in using his arm v Man City in 18/19 and the ball brushing someone's wrist in the build up to a goal.

VAR would have disallowed that goal for offside anyway, the handball would have been irrelevant.

And Rudiger's.

Although i'd prefer they were at their strongest for Cup final.

Swear Sky wanted that to be a red. All through the replays "That doesn't look good from that angle". Fuck off.

Yeah the main commentator (less so with Hinchcliffe) proper got excited for it didn't he!

I felt that throughout they were very biased towards Chelsea, to be expected i suppose.
