Welcome to Wolves Nelson Semedo

A mate of mine who is a Chelsea fan text yesterday saying he would "genuinely prefer Doherty over Semedo".

I think he was taking the piss, but it's interesting how much of a reaction this transfer has got. I wonder if it would be the same if Semedo was English and not represented by Jorge Mendes?

Yeah I'm baffled by other team's fans reaction. Rate Doherty sure, he's good in fantasy footy and has scored some key goals for us, whatever. But as good as Semedo? Just being salty.

As I said before we all know Doherty is rubbish defensively and that didn’t hamper him at all in our system so even if Semedo isn’t great defensively I wouldn’t even be remotely worried.

My friend is an Abion fan but pretty much secondary to Barca (I know.... but he is obsessed with Messi/Barca, has all the kits, watches all games etc)

He says it's a joke what people are trying to say - thinks they're saft. He rates Semedo highly and says it really was case of him being expected to bomb forward a lot and yet somehow make it back to save the defence as well with no cover from team mates. It's no wonder he has took this move.

Going to read the Spurs thread :D

Oh, here we go:

"Matt is not gonna give away soppy FKs near our pen area."

No because he won't close the man enough to even stop the cross coming in :icon_lol: ahhhh.

Doherty was indeed very good at RWB, the positional change was exactly the right thing for him but I still think he’d peaked and was on his way down. If he plays RB at Spurs from now on he won’t last long there. Semedo will be a huge upgrade, technically miles better, a better athlete and experience of playing with some of the world’s best players. The RWB role will suit him even better and I think he’ll thrive there.

Nah, Doc just gives away daft penalties

I think with Reguilon coming in there's a slim chance they go to WBs, Son/Kane/Bale in a front 3. How they balance their midfield will be anyone's guess but that's Jose's problem, not ours.

Something interesting that I didn't know (and could easily be apocryphal), but apparently Semedo was informed by Barcelona that he "wasn't good enough for the club" even before the Bayern match.

Tough to play with that hanging over you, I'd expect.

Not sure about this when Bartomeu was saying last month he was one of the unsellables. Then again we've seen how long that was relevant. Barca are a complete mess of political infighting and financial mismanagement, if nothing else life should be a lot quieter and simpler for Semedo here.

Where did you get that from?

Guess what, can't defend. Well any of us could have told you that.

There's not much positive on there, a few hoping he comes good (blind faith, really), more calling him out for what he is.

Thanks Dan.

Interesting to read that they can already see the flaws on Matt's game, laziness, looking disinterested, lack of closing down, poor spacial awareness but some optimists are shooting it down as he's only had 2 games.......

The sellable thing was mainly wage driven wasn’t it. Wanted the high earners who are old gone. Don’t imagine Semedo was on the big bucks and isn’t over 30 so they would have kept him.

But i dont think it was really a measure of ability of the mentioned players.

Have a look on the fighting cock forum. Matt has a 39 page thread.

In summary 14 pages of building excitement. 10 pages of crowing that they have rinsed little old Wolves. The remainder slow cold realisation that it may just have been the other way round. Now available with added Semedo.

Good summary! Im enjoying reading them realise that maybe just maybe, little old Wolves have pulled Spurs pants down :icon_lol:

If Spurs play Doc as a standard RB then his failure will be their fault. We know he can't play as a standard RB so if they have purchased him for that role then they are fucking idiots. Spurs are still buying players so maybe they will shift to use him as a RWB over the coming weeks
If he is a RB then no pants being pulled down just dreadful scouting and very much a highlights package signing. That's not Doc's fault though

Tbf some of the responses to Lang on Twitter are embarrassing.

This genuinely had me laughing out loud from Dan:

I think I was being generous to Doc! If we're judging him as a RB (where Spurs are inexplicably playing him) then he's last night's cold chips. That have fallen on the floor. And the dog has walked over them.

The dog has walked over them? Clearly a man who's never owned a Springer Spaniel...

Well actually I think it is to an extent. Doc should know his strengths and weaknesses by now. Surely he would have been made aware by Spurs on how they intended to use him before going there?

If he’s joined a top six club thinking he can somehow muddle through playing as an orthodox full back in a back four, then he has to shoulder a large portion of the blame if/when it goes wrong.

Boozad, Deutsch and I have already had words with a reporter from The Athletic.

Think I saw this claiming Semedo wasn’t an upgrade on Doherty, Miguel Delaney also had a dig during the city game calling us Sporting Mendes Fc

Maybe he just went for the money?

To be fair he isn't that likely to say "ah, don't play me there, I'm shit".

They should know that though.
