I don't hold out much hope for us in this competition. You have to be able to see out games in knockout football and we've lost that ability somewhere along the way. Way too inconsistent and the lack of experience will mean that even if we get favourable draws and play well in every game we're bound to slip up in some way or other and go out. Even so, it's the only hope of getting into Europe next season so we've got to have a go and name our strongest available XI. Going to assume that all that injuries are still unavailable and that we don't sign anyone before Friday.

Patrício

Coady Saïss Kilman

Semedo Neves Moutinho Aït-Nouri

Adama Silva Neto

Same as above but swop Semedo /Ait Nouri for Hoever/ Marcal (if fit). Or play the whole U23 team.
For me i couldn't care less about the cup. You can't even go watch the team!
But, if we can progress it might breed confidence. On the other hand we could pick up more injuries.
Ultimately i would play the kids, give the first teamers a rest, and hope we get a couple back from injury.

Podence not fit so drop Taylor Perry in his place. It's not far off the U23 side!

We have Everton the following Tuesday and Albion on the Saturday lunchtime, meanwhile they don't have a midweek game so I wouldn't play any of the starting forwards or midfield players where we can get away with it.
Assuming nobody is back.

doubt Nuno will go this weak but he will certainly make changes.

Someone else who has me on ignore😃

With the games the week after we will bring in some of the younger players - if none of the senior players who are out are ready to come back in then we don't have the FB's to play 4 there so

Ruddy (though would prefer to give Sondergaard a run out)

Hoever - Coady - Saiss - Kilman - Ait Nouri

Otasowie - Neves

Vitanha

Corbeanu - Neto

I half expect us to have a bit of a cup run this season. Palace are no great shakes. we should be able to beat them. Depending on the 4th round draw we can select a team accordingly. Stronger team the closer we get to the final rounds.

I can't get behind the thinking of not caring about the cup. The team is in less than great form and so working to right that is the most important goal surely? So other than Ruddy, I would be going as strong as possible other than making sure Otasowie and Hoever start as they are development projects who are more than capable of the level from what we have seen.

If we went with Sondergaard instead of Ruddy, we might break whatever the record is for the youngest starting 11 ever put out in an FA cup game...

I certainly wouldn't be playing Neves and Moutinho in a 343 and I wouldn't be chucking all the kids in.

I'm OK dismissing the league cup but not this too. After three seasons of winning the Championship, finishing top 7 in the PL twice, an FA Cup semi final and EL quarter finals I don't want to just abandon all ambition for the club!

We can certainly beat Palace at home, i would be giving as many of our regulars playing time as possible. These new players are never going to get to know each other if they're not playing together.

I'd be more cautious if there was no chance at all of some of Boly, Marcal, Donk and Pod being fit for either of the next two PL games, otherwise I'd be going for this:

Rui

Hoever Coady Saiss RAN

Neves Otasowie

Traore Vitinha Neto

Silva

Neto looked knackered at the end of the Brighton - shouldn't;t be anywhere near starting this pointless waste of time.

yeah, agree with that completely. Got to give Neto a bit of a breather. After Everton and West Brom we then also have the 'winter break' right? So gives him some good rest time then too to perform well for the second half of the season, which we really need to do.

Ruddy

Hoever
Coady
Kilman
RAN

Otasowie
Neves

Traore
Vitinha
Corbeanu/Shabani

Silva

If Boly is fit, play him. If Donck and Marcal are fit, give them thirty minutes with the intention of them being ready for the Everton game.

Short in attacking options if Podence isn't fit (seems unlikely) and the need to rest Pedro. Ideally need a signing or two in by then but we don't always seem the most 'proactive', and prefer to wait for the best value etc which we could really do without this month. Just get on with it.

Nuno can make that call about any of the players of course, he'll have more info than you or I.

But he does like a small squad, so this is always going to happen. If we harbour ambitions of being a force then we probably need to handle playing in two competitions, let alone four! I thoroughly disagree that the FA Cup is pointless

Not sure if Corbeanau is any kind of option as a forward replacement?
