Let's talk about Nuno....

"Nuno put pen to paper on the deal after leading the Molineux club to Premier League promotion and European football since joining in 2017.

But SunSport understands Mendes is actively searching for a change of scenery for his client - whose reputation has soared over the past few seasons.

Nuno is keen to remain in England’s top-flight, and Mendes was in talks with Arsenal over a potential switch.

However, Mikel Arteta’s recent resurgence and upturn in results saw those talks scuppered.

LaLiga would also be an option after working with Valencia in the 2014-15 campaign.

Any potential new team would have to boast European football.

Nuno remains content with his situation at Wolves, despite their drop in form this season.

But Mendes is aware of Nuno’s meteoric rise in status as a manager".

As usual the soaraway putting up an article about nothing. Talk about stoking the fire..... cunts.

I'm talking about Marcal's status as a squad player more than money. If we can splash £35m on future talent then I can't see that being much of a factor.

I'd still class Donk and Saiss as squad players, they've only really had so many chances this season due to injury and formation changes.
You're hard work!!

There is a world of difference between £1.5m and £35m. It's £1.5m to cover a short term hole which we won't see again, Vs £35m of star potential which, all being well, we'll see one way or another either in performances or resale value.

It also shows that the club recognise where we are deficient and will make pragmatic purchases if the right player is available.

Donk and Saiss weren't signed to pad the squad out and they're now experienced first team players. They've been in and out occasionally but they're certainly more first team than squad players.

Agreed, that's why I think it was a calculated gamble.
This is exactly what it was. Has it worked short term no because Raul is injured and for a long time which means Silva has been our only striker for a month. We've now recalled Cutrone and let's be honest if we were looking for a striker to be backup to Raul as a new player not sure we could have got anyone better so we've compromised ourselves for about 2 months. Long term it could really benefit us as Silva could become the player the club thinks he can and he will be worth the time and money, right now whether you think £35 million is too much you can't assess it properly without an ending so i don't think anyone can say it's good or bad.

In terms of Silva and that gamble i don't think the club thought he was ahead of where he is, i think some fans were expecting him to be better than he is because of the money without taking everything in to account personally. He's a young lad that's moved country(although the lads here have probably helped him settle) he's expecting to be blooded slowly but been thrust in to the limelight as our number 1 striker due to that injury. He's not really physically ready for that role and that's quite obvious but would he have been useful coming off the bench for 30/25 minutes if needed or playing in the cup games of course he would, his performance against Arsenal, his movement against Villa was top quality, he came on against Burnley and just put himself about which was more than anyone else did. He's had games such as the Brighton one where he ran around like a kid second half and wasn't disciplined and that made him look worse or he's been killed by being shoved left wing by Nuno asked to track back and help RAN too.

He's also come in to a team that is struggling to get to the heights of the two previous seasons. even with Raul we were struggling to create the clear cut chances that we had done previously and one that has tried to evolve but then suffered injuries to key players and had new players most of them quite young trying to settle.

I can see why people think it was the wrong to just sign Silva and not have the backup that they think is required as it definitely has left us short, they also may think Cutrone isn't good enough but for me it was definitely worth the risk. Again it's only my point of view but i think Silva will come good and will be worth the fee but we won't know about that for some time yet.

I know Silva is young and inexperienced but so was Robbie Keane, but when he made is debut you could see that he had something special. Watching Silva I have yet to see something that makes him look any other than average. I really hope that he proves me wrong.

Completely agree.

Keane was also playing as part of a front 2 with experienced heads like Bully where as Silva has come in to lead the line alone

Well said, and totally agree with this. With one or two years under this coaching setup (particularly a full pre-season) he'll be worth every penny of the £35m. You can't coach that kind of movement and footballing intelligence, you can coach the rest.

Thank you for putting into words what was in my head

Players mature at different rates, just like everyone else. Some players like Rooney are ready for mens football at 16, some aren't ready until their 21. Vardy didn't play premier league football until he was 27, he's now scored nearly 120 goals at 1 in 2. Players have different playing styles too which can help depending on the situation.

Fabio isn't a great physical specimen so he's got his youth goals because he's been better than everyone else not because he's bigger, faster and stronger than them. He's come into the most physical top league and you require that strength to compete against the better players. It's definitely much harder to see on TV but his movement is really good for 18 and his link up play when he gets to show it is too. He's snatched at chances when he's got them but that will stop and he will improve physically, if all goes well then add that to his ability and you hopefully have a top class centre forward.

But that's what happens when you only play one striker and only have one senior striker in the squad.

Everyone's nodding their heads and talking about fan expectations and what a player Fabio could be in a couple of years, but are we really a club that can invest that much in a player and then expect to hardly play him? Cos he doesn't look like he should be playing more than a few mins here and there when a game is won. Has there ever been that kind of luxurious precedent set elsewhere at a club our size?

It's sounds like something an elite club would do, but I read on here daily how we should lower our expectations and being 14th is fine. Which is it?

I sincerely hope that Nuno decides to go having read that he's not being given any more money this transfer window. If he's been 'forced' to take Cutrone and MGW instead of new signings, then that might not bode well considering his current family problems too.
Lets hope for a good performance and result on saturday and put the matter to bed.

The problem with new signings in this window is that we would hope in the next couple of months that all our injured players will retrun (Jimenez aside).

So we're looking for players who may well not get much game time after that, or potentially players who would be long term signings. Neither are exactly easy to do at the best of times.

I'd say its something we have done.

I think his awareness of players around him is good and his ability to lay the ball off to colleagues is excellent. Lack of pace means we will only really see what he's made of when he beefs up a bit and let's hope that makes a big difference. Only time will tell.

On the last para. You, and only you, has made this suggestion that only an a elite club should spend £35m on potential, then try to claim that your own assertion is inconsistent with previous claims regarding our status. Classic strawman argument that.

Andy is right, you are hard work.

I think you will get the final answer when we turn into a beautiful swan. Unfortunately the ugly duckling bit isn’t a great watch at all and not very enjoyable.

Being 14th right now is fine. Being 14th at the end of the season, less so, etc.

Sometimes you have to take a step back in order to move forward. The trick is to not step backward off a cliff.

Now I see that on here a lot but we may well go to five substitutes soon . Our weak bench is often left to 75 minutes before changes as there is not enough on there to give improvements. We even name two keepers ffs! So if Raul Cutrone Fabio and ANOther do some swapsies at 60 minutes all get plenty of game time so get kept relatively happy, not to mention they aren’t flogged to death.
Sign a fucking striker. It’s needed and the rest is just smoke and mirror bollocks.
As for Nuno, he doesn’t know his best 11 , doesn’t know his best formation and may well be a bit pissed off at not getting the backing to sign the players he wants. Well he did spunk 65 m on Samedo and Fabio so perhaps Fosun are playing hardball this window. Or those signing were nothing to do with Nuno, in which case FUCK!
If he leaves he leaves. I would hate to see it but his stock is as high as it will ever be with Wolves until we win something. If, however he looks at the whole bigger picture he is not finished and has work to do to put icing on a decent cake that he has baked here at Wolves and he strikes me as a completer finisher. So I hope he stays and gets the backing and sorts this difficult period staring with a certain team this weekend.

Doesn't know his best 11? Half of it is injured! What do you expect him to do, keep trying things that don't work?

I get that the chopping and changing is frustrating from a difference but come on, it doesn't mean Nuno is clueless. He's problem solving on the fly. Sometimes managers have to do that. It's part of sport. You face adversity and you do your best to overcome it. If you think you have a better solution than what you're currently trying, of course you try it. Maybe it works, maybe it doesn't, but it's better than stagnating with a plan that is just okay.

It may be now they are injured but it wasn’t that way earlier in the season and we still didn’t click much. Nuno is naturally cautious and that has translated to the team whatever the personnel on the pitch.
Transition is when thing but there is also regression and we have regressed in the first half of the season. We now can’t keep a. Lean sheet and can’t score enough goals so it’s a testing time for Nuno. Last season the team picked itself in all competitions. Bar a couple of minor changes. This season there has been far more tinkering, changing, tweaking even before the injuries. It’s a tough spell but then that’s what he is paid to sort. I hope he does it and takes us on to he next level even if he is struggling with it all at the moment.
