I'd rather see Neves playing higher up the pitch and dictating things tbh. We just need a DM next to him, not an AM.

They can both do both. Both players need to be able to do everything really in a 2, pretty unbalanced otherwise. Can get away with it a bit more in a midfield 3.

Kante and Matic is the blueprint to follow under Conte. Both got forward, both carried the ball and both influenced play high up the pitch.

Or even look at Jorginho and Kante now. Jorginho is similar In play style and attributes to Neves.

Neves next to Kante would be perfect.
I don't think Kante and Jorginho can do everything though, they complement each other don't they.

No but I’m saying Jorginho still influences the play from CM in a 3-4-3 and doesn’t play CB.

Just because Nuno played Neves as CB in a 3-4-3 does not mean Bruno will do the same thing. He will be playing higher up the pitch naturally as the team will be. Where he will be able to find passes in the opponents half rather than hitting diagonals from inside his own half.

I get what your saying, I just think that with Neves vision and passing ability I'd rather have someone next to him who was more adept at the defensive side, to take the pressure off him a bit and hopefully allow him to shine in that aspect of his game.

More adept than Neves? He’s pretty adept at it! Or are you saying you would prefer someone to play alongside him who runs around a lot but can’t play football, because we already have Donck to do that and thats our problem! We actually need someone who can play football in midfield in the 3-4-3. Moutinho was that guy before, but he’s knocking on and he’s not going to be able to press out of possession.

Well, Moutinho is decent defensively when he gets back, but he spends more time ahead of Neves which stifles his all round game.

I'm not saying that I'd prefer someone alongside Neves who can't play football, that would just be silly.

I know Neves is good defensively, but I think he's even better offensively. I'd rather us sign a good DM than ask Neves to do that job. I don't think I'm proposing anything outrageous here. Destroyer/creator midfield partnerships have done alright over the years have they not?

Yeah and he’s a midfielder so he needs to be able to work at both ends of the pitch.

We shouldn’t be asking him to be just a DM, we should be asking him to be a CM and his partner to do the same thing.

We’re playing a back 3 so naturally you’re going to have more men behind the ball than in a back 4. As I said earlier you can get away with having a midfielder who is exclusively the DM in a midfield 3 as that is likely to have a back 4.

I just think Neves shined the most when he was next to Saiss in the Championship, for me that blend worked really well. I know it's a different level and all that and I'm no expert on tactics, that's just what I'd prefer to see.

Edit: Not Saiss, a better version.

Yes and in the championships their roles were practically a mirror image. If anything Saiss was making runs beyond the forwards occasionally, I cannot remember Neves doing that even once. Hence the stat that he’d scored more from outside the box than touches inside. Ndiaye obviously ran beyond the forwards the most.

Neves was only higher up the pitch because the team was higher. And even then, he was never particularly high in the championship, always behind the ball.

Really ?? Donk couldn't play in the manner Nuno wanted as he was trying to paper over inadequacies in our attack, but to state Donk cannot play football is a lazy stereotype at best, plus I think he was the only one not allowed to use the fatigue excuse for performances, other people were knackered, he was just crap ?
 
I think Neves and Donck would both be fine in Bruno's midfield 2, just not with each other. That's said it's clearly our best 2 at the moment

Obviously he can play football, on over exaggeration but I didn’t think that was too hard to work out.

Is he good enough in possession for a team who wants to play progressively through the middle of the pitch in a 3-4-3. Absolutely not if you think the answer is yes then you must have never watched him play. You can get away with that in a back 4 as he is then the third defensive player, or in a team like burnley who largely bypass the midfield. We currently do either of those.
 
Early prediction. If results aren't good by October everytime Bruno says "Trust the Process" it will trigger Wolves fans just like Nuno saying solutions in his final 4 months

Kante is the best DM in the world for me currently, but those gems are very hard to find
 
This season it looks like atop four , a bottom 5 and the rest. We are somewhere in the rest. Even with three new players we will be in the rest. I just can’t see now how you sell Traore and Neves to raise funds yet improve the squad even if you signed three more. Traore is enigmatically unique and Neves minus the shackles and playing higher already looks a class act. We just lost 1 0 to the cup and community shield winners who were grateful to not concede. No shame at all from yesterday and plenty of positives. RAN for marcal and Semedo for Hoever. We will already look better. Boly back and even Mir if he isn’t #headsgone and we look in a reasonable squad position. A couple or three would be most welcome but if it means selling gold to buy silver I don’t see the point.
