Watford 0-2 Wolves: Verdict Thread

My sister and brother in law are ST holders at Watford.
They messaged me to say that Wolves were superb, miles better than them and our midfield is clearly a class above theirs
I also know a Watford fan who said we were by far the better team in the 2nd half.

넘 좋아
In full disclosure, I used a translator to find out that said 'I love it' and I had designed an hilarious retort but unfortunately I used Darlows translator and when checking my reply I'd actually said "what, rooster, yes we know you do" , in hindsight it was more effort than it was worth, I apologise and hope you can forgive me :)

The bloke is class & his performances this season show how much he was being held back by Nuno’s tactics over the last couple of years.

Unfortunately, what comes with these good performances is people sit up and take notice. Every post on social media is filled with Man Utd fans in the comments. I think Ruben is happy here, but it wouldn’t surprise me if the bids start to fly in & Fosun eventually bottle it and accept one.

Even his interviews after the matches - couple of weeks back after the Utd game and the Pogba tackle, then again yesterday, he’s turning in to a real leader on/off the pitch for us.

The problem seems to be that if Podence plays 90 minutes with Traore, they might score 5 goals, putting pressure on the team to keep scoring.
In other news, Harry Kane barely got any touches. Zaha was unstoppable.
Reversion to the mean...

"Only" 2 yellows stopping Traore from making the match more exciting.
Why doesn't 2 yellows = 1 red...or at least some reasonable penalty. A free kick at midfield is meaningless.

Way over the top to suggest Nuno's tactics held him for a couple of years. He played well over those 2 years and imo has been our best/most important player since he arrived.
Last season people were writing him off because he wasn't scoring 35 yard screamers, I've no idea why he seems unable to hit a barn door nowadays (he's still doing this season btw) but the rest of his play is and was first class.
I'm surprised we managed to hold on to him tbh.
Hopefully we can kick on this season, persuade him to stay and build our team around him, although that's unlikely if City, Utd or one of the big Spanish clubs come calling.

Neves was sacrificed for the team in the PL under Nuno. He needed him to hold shape in front of the back 4/3, meaning he played deeper and therefore not affecting the game as much as he could offensively. That said it's why he's still here

Neves will leave, he won’t see out his current contract. He simply has to play for one of the biggest clubs in Europe and win major trophies. He knows this, the club knows this and there is little point being overly concerned about it. From the moment he walked into the club he has been nothing but an exceptional professional and he will deserve his move when it comes. His departure should not be viewed as a lack of ambition in the part of the club but I fear that is exactly how it will be viewed by a section of our supporters.

That reminds me. Another game where we have a FK in a promising position (couldn’t have been any better) and we fail to make the keeper work or get it within a few yards of the goal!

May as well let Kilman take the next one, he seems to have decent technique, certainly can’t be any worse.

Probably the worst performance of the season so far on the whole but we still thoroughly deserved to win especially after the second half. We started well on the front foot but still struggled to really create a chance until we got Trincao on the ball. He was head and shoulders above everyone else in the first half but we couldn't capitalise on it because it was Semedo on the end of our best chance.

After a bright first 15 minutes Watford settled, realised they could get at Marcal with Adama not coming back and no one really able to stop Sissoko. Siass struggled for 20 minutes too but we were still reasonably solid. When we had the ball they pretty much defended the width of the box as Marcal and Semedo were just not good enough with the ball and Watford took the chance that they wouldn't deliver a telling cross which in the end Marcal actually did.

Felt sorry for Trincao being moved after his first half but i can see why Bruno did it and it sort of worked because we were definitely more dominant and did create Semedo's second one on one and at that point it felt like we still wouldn't score. That changed when Marcal put in the best cross of the game from out of nowhere and you could feel the relief despite it not being one of our players who put it in. Hwang probably would have scored had Sierralta not got to it and it seems he might just get in to a lot of goal scoring positions.

Podence looked good when he came on and was superb in creating the second goal and Hwang was in the right position when Marcal somehow missed. The away end erupted as we knew we'd definitely won the game now.

Just on Raul, he was very poor at times and still seemed a couple of yards short but then at others came alive and looked like he was getting there. The flick to Semedo started it and then he started to want the ball in between the lines in the final third late on which we didn't always look for but will more imo if he continues to do that and some neat little football with him, Podence and Hwang nearly got us a third but for a good last ditch challenge. Should have scored though with his header and i think that showed he's not quite there but there were glimpses that he definitely is moving forward.

Interesting to see what we do moving forward as i'm not sure Semedo and Marcal are good enough consistently on the ball if we're asking them to get so high with the ball but then they were involved in both goals and our best chances. If they can get that consistency out of them we're going to be fine, if not i think we need to find a way of going to a back 4 and getting 3 of the attacking lads behind Raul on the pitch or we're simply not going to score enough goals compared to what we should do.

Hopefully we can push on now we've finally scored and got points on the board and there seems real positivity with the team and they're enjoying playing attacking football, it's really good to see.

Bit harsh as he was shooting from a yard out with three players in front of him !

Not really, he should score with the room at the near post. Just mishits it at the 3 players. Doesn’t matter now though as Hwang was there to finish it off.

Whoever was on co-commentary on Sky coverage said that Lage had said that the one condition of him coming to Wolves, was that he could work with Neves and Traore for the whole of this season.

He also described Trincao's style as 'lazy' but quality, apart from his shooting.
