Wolves 0-2 Brentford: Verdict Thread

but when it comes to the forward players i don't think he has a clinical player at his disposal and that's not something he can really work on.
We’ve signed two forwards this summer. If they aren’t clinical, why do we keep signing forwards who can’t score?

I just look at West Ham. They sign forwards who can score, from the championship, for less money than we have committed to Trincao. These players attack the back post, get themselves in decent positions, get on the end of crosses, cut inside and find the top corner.

They also have FBs who can cross. Watching the end of the Chelsea game yesterday I watch Marcos Alonso put 3 or 4 dangerous balls in from deep in the last 20 mins. Yes I know he’s better than what we have. But Cresswell and Coufal do the same and they aren’t even playing as WBs. Why do our WBs not cross it, and when they do why is it rubbish. You don’t need a big man in there is you put it in dangerous areas. See Liverpool for details.

I’m just fed up with 3-4-3 when it suits none of our players.

Football isn’t played on paper. Worst teams regularly beat better teams.

Without bizarre refereeing Saints beat City at the weekend. Brentford beat us. Brighton beat Leicester.

I honestly expected us to not lose to United or Leicester and thought we could/would beat Spurs. They are shit and Kane wasn’t playing.
Absolutely, and that's part of why we love it right? Sometimes it goes against every single expectation you had.

At an individual game level I don't expect us to beat teams that are better than us, at a holistic season level I'd be surprised if we didn't.

Anyway, DW is right, what I do expect is if we can't solve our goal scoring problems for things to get very uncomfortable. Whilst that problem remains unsolved, relegation remains a distinct possibility.

It wasn't that unexpected given how Brentford had played against Arsenal and how much they like to press.

Annoyed yes, but also kind of worried that Brentford would expose us.
Then surely you have us down for relegation?

Pretty sure we are better than Steve Bruce's Newcastle. This is some low bar we're setting here.

By the way our start has been so ace that we're below Watford.

I haven't ruled it out, have you?
I expect us to get about the same points as last season, but in doing that we got a point from Spurs at home, 4 off Chelsea, did the double over Arsenal whilst failing to beat Newcastle, Burnley and Albion. I don't think getting at least a point at home to every team except City, Liverpool and maybe a Chelsea is an unreasonable expectation.

My feeling is that we've played 6 games and had 1 bad performance. Results haven't gone our way, which is an issue, but I don't think it's time to start thinking about how long Lage has got left just yet. The next two games will tell us much more. I'd expect us to win at least one of them.

I honestly don't think we'll do as "well" as last season barring a good January window.

If / when Raul gets his mojo back I might change that view.

Five games, no-one cares about the League Cup. We've won one, we've scored one. That is rubbish, I don't care how many ways you cut it about us "playing well". There isn't a Playing Well Cup as far as I remember.

Of course he's under pressure, right now. As you say he has to get at least one result out of the next two (we haven't beaten Newcastle at home since we got promoted, FWIW, and of all the teams that jam results despite playing like shite...). The definition of pressure.

If he doesn't, local derby next, away from home. Against a team who we've managed to allow to overtake us over the last 18 months. I wouldn't fancy that too much if we have 3, 4 or 5 points on the board from 7 games.

The stakes are too high for the owners to let us get in a prolonged relegation battle.

Now, this is mostly on the club, not the manager. He's the fall guy though if we're in serious shit before the clocks go back, of course he is. That's the way it's always worked.

I don't know the answer to this but i wish i did. I don't think you can look at any of our forward players and think he's got 10 goals in him bar a fully fit Raul and maybe Hwang on what we've seen so far. The recruitment needs to be better but i'm not sure what the plan with that is.

I think we both said last week that our FB's/WB's need to be better on the ball. For all they do none of them are good enough in the attacking third for me especially when it comes to crossing and finishing which are the main things you need. We also have no player who can deliver from a set piece which annoys me more than most things. It's a basic skill one of our players should have but they don't.

I sort of agree with this, i can cope with it if RAN plays etc and the 2 wider forwards come narrow and link but i agree we shouldn't be playing 3-4-3 really and i think the team would be better with a 3 behind Raul but i'm still not sure who the 10 would be.

FFS, Alli lucky to get a pen, Man U scoring from a goalie mistake in the last ten after Pogba clattering Neves shin, Leicester also lucky to beat us, Adama has had 2 one-on-ones and hit the bar last game, Saiss should have scored 1 - 0 against United from 1 yard out, Brentford is not a bad team really, well composed and Toney that is just quality(good defence too), beating Watford away 2-0 comfortably.. I dont care too much about the League Cup either more about picking up more points in the PL, 4 points in the next two would be great..and im sure we will be fine and not relegated at least. We will beat some good sides and lose to some bad sides, like every other team do. PL is a very competitive league, Im just sad many other teams have strengthen but we havent so much..

Podence is good off set pieces but he doesn't seem to take them at the moment.

Hwang played sort of as a #10 when he first came on in this game but fuck knows once we went full Steve Bruce and played All The Strikers.

..and our WB´s need to cross better and better square passes and runs in those positions because it is great goal scoring opportunities

Right. And this earns us how many points?

Maybe we can add the Bad Luck Trophy and the Awful Misses Shield to our Played Well Cup.

We are where we are because we can't score and can't defend, which is not a very good combination.
