Southampton 0-1 Wolves: Verdict Thread

Just back - the reception that Raul got on the goal made your hairs stand up.

Worth going for alone.

Saints we’re awful, Coady, Semedo, Sa, Donk, Hwang and Moutinho we’re all good, seven out of ten.

Marcal and Podence were poor - Podence needs to forget the back heels and concentrate on getting his head up and getting on the ball. Still not convinced by him one little bit.

Overall, we were a bit boring. A better team would have beaten us today.

Been out all day with no phone access, so nice to get home and find we won and Raul scored....and a clean sheet...we really needed all those things, performance was of secondary importance.
Did see the team before kick of and was very concerned with no Neves, Boly or Traore/Trincao.
Still, somehow it worked out.
Just read the match thread... dearie me.
I haven't seen the match so shouldn't really give any opinions....but fuck it, its hyperbole city it appears, so.....the people giving Raul loads, have a fucking word with yourselves, he's one of the top strikers in the league, been out for eons with a life threatening injury, have a bit of fucking patience.

The performance wasn't great, we got the rub...and absolutely delighted for Raul. I hope and think that'll be him back

Poor game. Poor performance. Great result.

sometimes winning ugly can kickstart a season. Lots of positives to take from it. Clean sheet main one. Yes, Sa played very well, but he’s there to save goals, so good job. Although not of a bomb scare trying to dribble out of trouble.

made up for Raul, took the goal very well.

can’t grumble. Win next game and it’s 9 from 7, would take that after first 3 games, and likely at start of season

0-0 would have been about right today. Both teams were shit, they were probably marginally more shit as they kept giving us the ball in their own defensive third as well as cocking every attacking move up. But ultimately we barely threatened between Semedo's chance and Raul's goal, then sat deep after that.

I'll take the points thankyouverymuch, conjured up through a moment of magic from one of our best players. But they're the kind of wins Nuno was getting slagged off for, I didn't think we'd get them in this brave new world.

I wouldn't go overboard about Sa. The clearance didn't mean anything, it was already handball. The double save was good, but offside anyway and had Adams actually put the rebound away (and it had counted) then it would have been a pretty bad piece of goalkeeping as he pushed it straight into a dangerous area off a fairly tame shot. Nearly cost us a goal fucking around with the ball, he's already done that numerous times. More than once played it aerially towards Podence, what does he really think is going to happen there.

Southampton helped us out by somehow fielding an even slower central midfield than we did and also Bednarek who I have rarely ever seen play well and managed to make a double ricket for the goal.

If Lage isn't getting credit when we play well and lose, does he deserve credit when he play well and win.

Jose Sa is better suited to this side than Patricio
You need to say it quietly. Sa looks a great acquisition to me for the money. And his best years are ahead of him. He will concede some howlers though! He is Grobbelaar lite

Pint half empty, don’t like the beer anyway and by the way the glass has a lipstick mark on it and is cracked.

Thought you had me on ignore.

We didn't play well, kid yourself we did if you like.

That 2nd half performance by Jiminez was superb and stimulated my hope for the future.
Raul is back.

Sa was top class, as was Saiss, esp. when you consider the poor performance by Marcal just outside him.

Hwang did well putting himself around a lot. Considering he hasn't been in the country long, I feel he could blossom.

Semedo and Coady were OK, and Kilman eventually settled down after his early rick.

Disappointed with Podence who kept giving the ball away and also with Traore who did nothing when he came on.

Superb result that will help to improve confidence and future performances.
