Wolves 2-1 Newcastle: Verdict Thread

From the Korean commentary it seemed that Hwang is pronounced "hang" - is that right or do I need my ears cleaning?
No, it's definitely Hwang (황) - it's prob just because they say it so fast.

It's my opinion that Sa wasn't cheating nor was he feigning an injury.

I believe that he was feeling the impact from having someone's boot hitting his shoulder at pace with its associated pain and numbness.
I believe he was expecting the ref to stop play immediately and when it didn't happen he instinctively tried to protect his goal.

Some other fan's opinions are different, which they are entitled to, although repetition of their opinion in a belligerent manner doesn't make them more right than anyone else. It saddens me to see how cynical some have become.

Hoang Hee-Chan?
Its a different language so its pointless trying to directly compare, they don't use a Z sound in their alphabet so pizza becomes Pi-ja essentially. My fiend Lindsey was called Lin-Jee.

Yeah that kinda thing. All vowels, no actual W- but very quickly from the "oh" into the "ah". It's very hard to Romanize Korean words!
Where about's are you in Korea? I used to live in Ulsan, near Busan.

On the Sa thing its interesting to read the difference of opinion. He was obviously acting, however he comes out at a strikers feet, there is contact with his head regardless of if it was minimal or glancing. The ref should be stopping play there as Sa didn't move, he's not qualified to say if Sa has suffered an injury, so whether we like it or not the game should be stopped for treatment to be administered.

Once Sa stays down his only option is to stay there, doing what he did makes him look a muppet and caused the ref not to blow the game dead.

I also agree he's a bit of a cock and will cost us goals with some of the pissing about he does with the ball on the floor aswell as with some daft errors but he's serviceable for a top half PL side.

I think the jury surely has to be out on his eccentricities and whether they're mostly beneficial or otherwise after only a handful of games. His proactive style has saved us at least one goal too.

I can't agree with calling our no. 1 a 'cock' and a 'dickhead' so early in his time with us though tbh, doesn't seem proportionate

Is Sa perfect? No. But then neither was Patricio last season and the bar is much lower now than the standards Rui set when he first arrived.

Sa allows us to play a higher line in open play because of his speed and bar the last 15 minutes against Newcastle this has been noticeable in most games. Another area where we benefit is defending free kicks. As he is prepared to come for crosses/balls in [something Rui had pretty much stopped doing] it means we can hold a higher line and means the second six yard box is not completely overcrowded by the time the ball in arrives.

A lot of confirmation bias either way on here.
I agree his style helps us play higher up the pitch, although since the last International break that's not been as high as before. He does also have some bizarre moments, not sure if it was as obvious unless you are in the North Bank but his positioning against Brentford when they hit the bar was weird, no idea where the goal was, as was his behaviour on Saturday for their goal.

Outside of that made some decent saves, very good distribution, stone cold cost 1 goal. Jury is out for me.

Which goal? If it's Southampton then no.

Yeah that's it, i seem to remember everyone being happy with his reactions there. I presume you're alluding to it 'not counting' and being pulled back for handball or something?

Can't remember so fair enough if so, I still think his alertness is a cause for some optimism in this team as much as his eccentricity needs carefully managing.

He did react well, it just didn't save us anything as there's no way a goal would have been given.

I'm not particularly interested in comparing him directly to Rui, Rui doesn't play for us any more. No more than I am with comparing Doherty to Semedo, or Jota to any of our non-Raul forwards. He just looks very average to me, nothing outstanding, plenty of errors and weird moments.

I'm glad you're so confident! Not like we haven't had any bullshit against us from refs/assistants/VAR when a goal 'shouldn't have been given'
