Wolves 2-1 Everton: Verdict Thread

Yep I was wondering about that, the first 3 games he looked to be improving in part due to that....pity we didn't win any of those
With the right 4 at the back you could go full on keegan and use both Trincao right and Traore left with both Hwang and Jimenez through the centre but with the current squad its suicide. We dont have the right midfield or back four to play 4-3-3 either I think. You then get to the point when you are building a side around Traore's strength which is not a good strategy in my view as he is not that good a player. If it was peak Ronaldo its a different matter.
We won none of those 3 games partly because our finishing , including Traore in that , was abysmal.

I remember people were apoplectic on the Neto deal as the Mendes favour. Fabio is a whole new level on that.

Salah has just scored 15 goals for Roma in 31 games. The money was about right at the time. Robertson was in the relegated Hull side and easily their best player and £8m was a bargain.

Salah was called a complete flop after his stint at Chelsea. I don't really have on opinion on Robertson at hull as i can't remember but I do remember Liverpool fans being up in arms about signing him.

The Neto deal looked so, so crooked at the time. How wrong we all were.

The Jordao one still looks dodgy though?
Meh. He hasn't worked out. He looked ok the one time I saw him. He just didn't get a real chance to show what he could do and was loaned out.

No reason he couldn't be on the bench this season. Where is he any way?

Scoring 14 goals and 15 goals in consecutive seasons for Roma isn't what I'd call a complete flop.

KdB wasn't a flop when he left Chelsea either.

Both were just mismanaged.

Salah was good but often flattered to deceive at Roma. He scored a fair few goals but his finishing in general was really poor, he could have scored 25+ each season there with the chances he created, but he constantly fluffed his lines.

I thought it was bad business by Liverpool at the time. Guess that's why I'm not a scout.

I recall that you weren’t a fan when you lambasted me for picking him at No.1 in the PTG draft!

Sorry, i didn't write that very well.

I mean that it was just one game, I agree we looked far more fluid against Everton, for the first 30 mins especially, rather than the "give it to Adama" tactic, which almost made me feel sorry for him.

BUT we HAVE played well this season with Adama in the team, so lets not write him off, there will be periods where both Trincao and Hwang aren't doing it for us (there have already) and that Traore and Podence (and Neto eventually) will be crucial.

The "lets get rid of Adama in January" talk just seems knee jerk to me off the basis of one game where he didn't play a minute. We have a small squad as it is, reducing our options even more is daft and unnecessary.
I sort of agree with this. It’s good to have options - and Adama is a freak of nature in that, he can do what no one else can. It’s also obvious that players like Trincao will be inconsistent due to their age and development, so it’s important to manage them through periods where he’s struggling for form, rather than just flogging them week in week out.

My problem with Adama is he (reportedly) wants £100k a week. Can we honestly afford to pay someone who is a fringe player at best those sort of wages when we could spend that money elsewhere?

I do agree that writing him off after one game which he didn’t even feature in is OTT, but we all know his limitations.

As if I had any right to lambast anybody for their draft picks! 😂

More the fool me, eh?

It looked crooked because we didn’t know anything about him. But at £16m that is less than half what we paid for Silva…

But he then made an impact straight away, and against Pyunik you could see he had something. Then followed that up with decent showings in the PL. There was something there to justify the fee.

If paying him 100k a week protects our investment in him I’d go for it. Doesn’t prevent any sale but does stop him signing a deal to walk away in 14 months.

Not really - he was behind Neto in his development when he arrived, and since he's been here he's been unlucky with injuries, including during his loan back to Portugal.

It was worth a punt, and reports when he has been able to play have been good. And effectively with the price we paid for both of them and Neto's current value, we got him for free.

I'm not convinced it protects our financial interests though - if he's not worth £30m now, then paying him £5m per year, to be a fringe player with little end product isn't going to add much value. And the older he gets, the more likely it is that people realise that his "potential" is perpetual, and never going to be realised

If Fabio is worth £35m then we should be looking at £200m+ for Adama ;)

But were called flops. Which was my point on perception. I don't really hold Serie A in the greatest of esteem considering I've seen the likes of Gervinho go there and look like world beaters. Not to say I disagree with your assessment on them being mismanaged.
