Wolves 2-1 Villa: Verdict Thread

Can't really add much to what most have said.

I'm going to humblebrag and say I was the only one in the pub before the game who predicted a win (2-0 and it would've been but for England the incompetent prick). Even when Marçal was named at LWB.

I'm still not sure on Lage, yesterday it looks like he gets the selection wrong, (Marçal was ok, nothing more) and we play some scintillating stuff with a high press. It makes you feel bouyant and how going to a game should do.

But then he'll do something like a West Ham performance when there's absolutely no need.

I get that he's learning and he needs time, it's just frustrating to watch at times. He really is a high or low manager.

Nothing in between.

The hope of European football and exciting play is enough for now though and if he can get more performances like that out of Fabio he's certainly worth keeping.

Moutinho clear MotM, Jonny not far away and as an aside Max Kilman's distribution was magnificent.
I am pleased you are seeing the progression in the play of Fabio.

Where to start with that? Well, unfortunately I'm going to start with the ref. Yet another officiating performance that is a stain on the PL. Total cunt. Gave a free kick every time a Villa player fell over and waved play on every time one of ours was fouled. He was desperate to help them get back into the game and couldn't wait to give a soft penalty. Personally, I'd sack every single PL referee and bring in referees from abroad, they're all better than our total clowns. I can't decide if it's incompetence or corruption, probably a combination of the two.

Anyway, onto the game. We were the better team. No question, we looked far more threatening and even when they had spells controlling possession they barely did anything with it. Our front 3 (5 if you count Hwang and Neto) always looked a threat and in Fabio had probably the best attacking player on the pitch today. He was excellent and really deserved a goal. Moutinho was superb and for all I'm critical of him, Donk was excellent today, maybe his best performance in a Wolves shirt. Sa also came up big when he was needed, the penalty was a joke and really should have been dealt with by Coady who didn't have his best game. MOTM Fabio.
The fact that 15 fouls were awarded against us & only 8 for Villa is a shocking statistic. No right-minded person could agree with that if they had watched the game as a neutral.

I've seen a few Wolves fans say it was a pen cos Watkins got to the ball first, which is just nonsense, it doesn't matter who gets to the ball first if the guy then takes out the opposition. If anything the nick on the ball takes it closer to Sa and the collision stops Sa getting to it. Foul on the keeper all day long.
I watched it last night, with another wolves fan and two Villa STH. They both said it’s a ridiculous decision to give a penalty and the right decision would have been to give nothing.

Is Sa using Moutinho as a human shield ?

He also robbed them of at least 2 mins of injury time at the point they had a head of steam up. The ball was in play for about a minute of the 4 added. He is, like the rest of them, just shit
Yeah we managed that well, Young fully bought into it too, you'd have thought he'd had the experience not to lose his mind the way he did.

Neto proper mugged him off.

Superb result and thought pretty much everyone played well. Stand outs for me were Moutinho, Silva and Jonny. Usually watching Wolves beating Villa is difficult to top, but Saturday I got to meet Moutinho, Jonny and Sa. Even had a chance to have a proper chat with Sa, what a top guy. He was fuming about the penalty. Looking back at it in replays Watkins does initiate contact, but the ref wasn't going to need much to give a decision there.

Just watching a clip of Donk doing a drag back and running the ball out of defence, thought he tried to do more 'stuff' on Saturday, wonder if Bruno has told him to be braver on the ball?

I think it was noticeable that he did. Not sure it was always in the best areas mind [a couple near the edge of our box spring to mind] but he certainly did 'more' on the ball and had a very good game overall, bar spannering it in to Boly's face in front of the SB of course and wide when he should have at least worked the keeper.

The Molineux remains a dire away end and the ground full of Villa obsessed twats. They pay us complement after complement by singing about us with such variety. Aston Villa, the total measure of a club round these parts.

Wolves fans seem obsessed with us. Strange that some of our lot seemed more interested in baiting them back than watching the game. Odd

They're a strange bunch, I've seen and heard this kind of narrative for a long while now, they suggest we are "obsessed" because we give them some stick and abuse when we beat or are beating them?

Well yeah, that's what football fans do you soft twats.
