Coronavirus

Yeah, it's mad. Really goes to show how important it is to actually make your suppression strategies worth it! No point keeping transmission low if you're gonna fuck up the final and most critical hurdle.

It's a right pita, hopefully you won't suffer too much. It was the not being able to do stuff that did my fruit.

That's always been my biggest deterrent to be fair, the thought of being stuck inside for a week or more.

Just a bit stuffy so far, only tested myself out of courtesy as had plans to go and see elderly relatives today. Line on the test was very bold but my partner tested negative so hopefully spotted it early enough that can keep ourselves segregated a bit and save her the hassle.

Took 10 days before I tested negative, my missus never caught it

10 days?! God knows what will become of me if I'm stuck here that long, might actually get some DIY jobs finished!

Annoying timing generally as got some meetings going on at work next week that I'd really liked to have been part of but very unlikely I'll be in the clear to go back to the office by then so looks like I'll be watching on from the sidelines over Teams instead.

Yeah I was pissed off last week, had loads planned.
From what I've gathered it takes 6-12 days to test negative.

I think our policy at work is do nothing for 3 days, then you need two consecutive days negative before coming back to the office so probably looking like Thursday at best.

Still positive on a test just now, feel worse this morning than I have since Monday/Tuesday.

That’s

Hopefully you’re feeling better.
Haven't felt particularly bad at any point really, throat is generally a bit rough when I first wake up and then just the general irritation of congestion/constantly blowing your nose.

It's the isolation that's the far bigger burden than the illness to me, into day 10 stuck at home now with another positive result this morning. Think my company policy would allow me to return to work after 7 days as long as I have a normal temperature, not that I have the means to check, but why would you want to risk being the person that takes it into work and pass it on again? Especially at a time of year like this when plenty of people will no doubt have plans with school holidays and an extended weekend, I don't want to be the dickhead that ruins that for anyone.

I thought the default isolation period was 10 days (irrespective of test result)?

Just spoke to my boss and he's said the same, so I'm free to return to the office tomorrow regardless apparently. Hopefully get a negative result in the morning to close it off completely otherwise will feel a bit weird going in knowing I've still 'got it'.

Your test may still pick up 'fragments' of the virus, but you are no longer considered to be contagious.

Still scary stuff. It's the hidden stuff that's the scariest. Whilst I know a lot of people who have got it/had it, none have been serious enough to require hospitalisation. That said it does stuff to you, it lingers on when all the symptoms have gone.
Amate of mine had it moderately bad, 2 weeks off work, usual symptoms, felt a bit shit for 3 days then slowly got better.... BUT!
He described it as like having cobwebs in your throat, couldn't take a deep breath, had to breathe slowly etc etc, but now he's caught pneumonia and his lungs are scarred. How long the scarring will stay, who knows? Hasn't played his beloved 5 aside for months now. Seems when you have it parts of your brain swells a little as you fight the infection, and they are finding out that lots of little links like certain memory functions which affect recall and skills like driving....
My wife went into a local big store and an Aldi yesterday, Big store (Dunnes) about half the people wore masks and in Aldi, NOT A SINGLE MASK TO BE SEEN!
8th April, there were 3,000 new cases in Ireland, with 20 deaths. 6th April, 4,000 new cases.
People allude to 'flu like symptoms' right enough, but it's what's it doing to you whilst you have it that bothers me.
My memory is bad enough as it is without Covid accelerating it.
Stay healthy guys.

Must be a lot of fragments knocking around inside me, that positive line is still pretty apparent.

Another, more senior, opinion from work now says I should stay at home until I test negative as long as I can work from effectively. I wouldn't say I ever work particularly effectively from home but even less so this time as I can't access the main piece of software I use for my job. Been waiting on IT approval for a VPN account to allow me to renew the network license since last Monday!
