Burnley 1-0 Wolves: The Verdict

Just trying to reconcile how it's fairly likely we could end up losing 10 of our final 14 games, and "he deserves backing". The two don't tally.

He absolutely doesn't "deserve" anything. He might keep his job and he might do better with different players. I'm not sure I want to take that chance though.

He certainly hasn't done anything above and beyond with this group of players that makes you think "wow, I really wish I could see what he could do with a big budget". We're horrible to watch and he doesn't learn from his many mistakes.

Yeah that's absolutely fair. He's had long enough with the group and there's very little evidence of improvement. I wouldn't be arsed if he left, but I'd be worried about what comes next, and most of the players need replacing anyway

As Lage only makes subs after 75 minutes in most games...yes completely coincidental. Would I rather have Adama than Hwang or Trincao? Yes. Would he have made much of a difference to results I highly doubt it. We aren't leading games so he wouldn't be proving an outlet on the break and we still don't get men in the box so crossing would be pointless

Adama was the fifth of five subs yesterday while Barca chased an equaliser for 65 minutes so even with better players he's been found out.

Him not being here is neither here or there.

At this point I'm ready to call Lage a Peri Peri Lambert. Lambert didn’t deserve the opportunity to spend money either.

Sadly, Fosun appear to have checked out and aren't lining up a better manager to take over in the summer.

Sorry you'll have to explain in words of one syllable or less to this old thicko, why that post is racist, casually or otherwise.
Me too. It's as if some people are viewing the forum from a different dimension.

Who we getting off the Mendes carousel is the the question to that. We aren't getting anyone outside of it....

We aren't good enough defensively to play with 'less' defenders and we aren't good enough going forward to outscore the opposition.

The more pragmatic approach is probably our best chance of getting decent results. Problem is that it's tedious to watch.

We aren't getting decent results though. As I say it is fairly likely we will finish with 10 defeats out of 14. That's assuming we don't lose at home to an already relegated Norwich, though we have played them twice this season and barely had a shot, let alone scored a goal.

It's 26 attempts with 14 on target. We have no idea where those attempts were from either

But you're missing the wider point that the chances we create are few and far between and the quality of them not great.

Our attacking play is negative in the extreme, our off the ball running is wank and our third person running is non-existent.

Strikers aren't going to change that, that's tactical and a coaching job.
Agreed we create few chances, but so do a lot of other teams in the PL. The difference is (with the good teams) they have the quality up top (and midfield) to finish those chances. But even lowly Burnley yesterday for instance, 1 chance = 1 goal.
If you have no focal point up top players just don't knock it in the box, or even pass to them to make the chances. We have 2 good wing backs who get up there to create chances but rarely cross it.
We always try to walk the ball in rather than make the telling pass and there's a reason for that. Fuck, unless it's a corner we have no one to head the ball! And then we don't get the corners in the correct place.

It doesn't matter what system we play when you have Hwang, Trincao and Fabio. They aren't good enough for the PL never mind for top 8 PL. Unfortunately Raul, and now Neto aren't with it. When you are relying on Jonny or Nelson to score (who had the 2 best chances yesterday) there is a massive problem, as the stats tell us.
Podence and Neves are our chance creators. Without them we are quite frankly toothless in creating opportunities to score.

Summer is huge, and could go both ways, but we have to give Bruno his own players and some time imo. Bring a new manager in now isn't replacing one person. It's a whole team of people. Then it's a start again job.

Yesterday was the first time I heard a good chunk of dissatisfaction with Lage as they booed him subbing Fabio, not any real end product from Fabio as per the other forwards but he did a good chunk of team play and movement to not get subbed. Is this the start of the end for Lage I wonder.

We're 8th, so we must have been getting decent results at some point. Otherwise, we wouldn't be 8th.

I'm not saying we aren't bobbins at the moment, I just don't really think we have the players to really change too much about how we play.

How do you know?

And that's the thing. You can only play who you have, with a formation that suits the majority of what you have. Bruno has said it a few times that the profile of players he has aren't goal scorers, and that been a problem from before he arrived. Pretty much since Jota and Doc left, and Raul got injured. Those 3 where the top scorers at the club.
