Squad 2022/2023 What will happen

Apparently Newcastle held some interest in January. How much do you think it would take for us to accept? Would be a strange situation as he's been so brilliant for us for the last 5 seasons really and obviously brings so much off the pitch. Just that we spend a lot of time hiding his weaknesses too.

I think we'd ask way more than anyone would pay.

Villa paid £20m plus add-ons for Mings who is shit. But because he's now a PL regular and (somehow) an England player they would want a hefty mark up on that. We would value Coady at least at a similar level, surely. And no-one will pay that.

I wouldn't sell him anyway. Besides which it's hardly an impossible task to play a back four with at least one centre half who lacks pace, tons of teams already do it and have done since forever. Up to the manager to set the team up properly.

I’ve tried to think very realistically about what FOSUN might do and ended up with the below:

GK - Sa, Sarkic
DF - Mosquera, Coady, Kilman, Boly, Gomes
FB - Jonny, Ait Nouri, Giles, Hoever
CM - Moutinho, Donk, MGW, Cundle, Jordao, Shabani (?)
FW - Chiquino, Neto, Traore, Hwang
ST - Jimenez, Fabio

That involves Neves, Podence, Saiss, Ruddy, Marcal and Semedo (my wildcard call) leaving to go abroad or to (I suspect) Man Utd for Neves. Sanderson will go on loan or transfer to a championship team (ditto Hoever albeit unsuccessfully as I don’t think he will want to / anyone will want him). I suspect we’ll try sell Traore, fail to find any decently valued bids, then decide to keep him and he’ll sign some pre-contract with a foreign team in January 2023.

Thats 23 players so probably a CB, CM and winger and I suspect the board would be happy enough with the squad at that point and pass it to the manager. The only name I’ve seen that would fit in and has been linked is Guedes for the wide spot given he can also play centrally. Not sure about CB or CM.

So now Adama is coming back. His dream club doesn't want him. How about a new contract then?

To go at least 3 from
Traore, Dendonker, Semedo, Kilman and Neves.
To come a DM a CF and a number 10.
If Lage stays it will be 4222 or similar.
It’s a bit squeaky bum time for our recruiting for me!

Out Pod. In MGW
A new signing that hasn't cost us a penny (is what Jeff will say)

Barring a sudden uptake in form, Raul to a Mediterranean club. Replaced by a 'name' forward from Portugal (or Spain)
If Neves leaves, also replaced by a Portuguese midfielder.
Saiss back to France, replaced by Gomes and Mosquera
Moutinho replaced by Cundle
An attacking midfielder or forward from Europe that catches everyone by surprise.

There's no evidence to suggest we can.
You're quite right in that nobody has wasted as much ball, run down as many blind alleys, or lost the ball in his own half dribbling out of defence.

I'm not sure they're desirable traits a team needs and not for me Clive.

Not sure Hwang runs much, other than retrieving his own Vanarama North standard first touch.

You back our recruitment team to get someone better??
I don't know what Lage is going to do with the formation next season but 3-4-3 doesn't work for Adama or Hwang so no point having either.

If he goes 4-4-2 as he tried in preseason he might work but given that was a disaster who knows what he's going to try.

Regardless I think Adama is a poor footballer and the squad would be better served without him.

We either need to go all in on 4 at the back or stick with 3, if its the former the current players need a lot of work. We could see:

Sa
Semedo - ? - Kilman - Jonny
Moutinho - ?
Neto - MGW - ?
Raul

Edit - personally I'd be replacing Raul, but that's tricky

And yet since he left we have been as bad as we've ever been, are you saying that letting him go to Barca strengthened us?

I think he might go 4-2-2-2 like Soton.

Sa
Semedo -- Gomes -- Kilman -- RAN
New CM -- New CM
Cundle -- MGW
Fabio -- Hwang

Which will get him the sack in 2 months and put us in the shit but I think he'll do it.

This is quite amusing. If you think we are shit because we don't have Adama you haven't been watching us play.

Clearly i don't think that's why we are shit.

I am just asking you if you think letting him go to Barca strengthened our squad? As that what the highlighted line implies?
