Arsenal 1-2 Wolves: Verdict Thread

Given the way we lost Raul our performance could have nosedived with our heads fairly lost at a fallen pal but they showed so much resilience getting the lead and then retaking it. Proud of them.

I do think we gave up the initiative a little with the two subs, I'd have made one, Kilman for Podence and gone back to a three and make it a bit of a 5 3 2 with Neto in the 3. Still grants us additional bodies defensively but gives an extra body going forwards too. If you want Neves on make it like for like with Joao.

I thought Joao was magnificent tonight, his best game for us since we restarted in July. He was superb.

Silva did really well, good touches, Traore should have done better from his pass.

Traore best game of the season too, but should have done much better with his chance. Driving into the middle really did create the second.

Podence was very good, very clever feet and a magnificent finish, he was playing chess while Gabriel played checkers. Beautiful goal.

Coady in a 4, who'd of thunk it? Did well, good pass to Traore before the second goal and a wonderful flick to deny Auba early doors.

Only real oh fuck moments were when Rui nearly got caught slipping and Auba had a header he should have buried. Last 15 minutes we invited pressure but they didn't create anything too concerning.

All things told its an outstanding win, Arsenal aren't anything special these days but even so, to go there and do that with an injury to your talisman is special.

Now to cross everything and hope its a nasty collision and nothing more serious for RJ9.

One player pressing alone is a waste of time, it's what this Wolves team is really built on and particularly when reverting to three at the back shape is the key to the defensive strength. Going 40 yards up the pitch chasing the ball amongst multiple opposition players is a largely fruitless endeavour, sapping energy and disrupting the defensive shape.

Thought the forward line got less effective with both late substitutions, both in and out of possession.
I agreed that the occasion he chased the keeper was ineffective but in the last 15 minutes he got a lot of his closing down right.

My alternative highlight for tonight was the Sky cameras picking up Rob Holding scream “he’s built like a brick shithouse, hows he gone down like that?” when he was booked for pulling Adama down 😂

Firstly, obviously, hope Raul is ok and does not have any lasting damage. Suspect we will not see him for a while, he will need some time to recover mentally as much as anything. Don't want to speculate, just hope he is ok.

I big up Ait Nouri a lot but Marcal was really, really good tonight. Very solid down that side, looked pretty comfortable all night. Moutinho was excellent, Neto was amazing. Good performances elsewhere, Podence's bit of skill for the goal was world class. Traore should've had a penalty but of course Marriner the dickhead decided he didn't want to intervene.

Aubamayang should've scored with his header, or at least got it on target, so lucky one there. We looked distinctly shaky 2nd half before Kilman came on...Rui almost had an awful moment giving it away and then Coady got caught trying to dribble out of the area (!) Not a huge fan of going into our shell but given the subs we had and the circumstances I can't really gripe about it - we've seen it backfire before but it worked out today.

Arsenal fans are great when at the maximum level of delusion

I thought we were quite good, but with the mild caveat that Aubamayeng was absolutely terrible today; Coady and Boly handled him well but they won't have an easier day for the rest of the season, IMO.

Marcel, Neto, Podence and Moutinho were all fantastic. Maybe not next week but I’m really looking forward to seeing Podence in that role again. The front four with hopefully Raúl ok can be something really special.
Silva did really well too.

Alan ^^^

Might be worth editing that to warn people it is of the Raul incident. I opened it thinking it was gonna be the Adama booking.
It shows Luiz for what he is

Have removed it, didn’t think it showed any thing too bad, but can see why it may cause distress
Behind the spoiler is good enough. People have the right to see that if they wish to look

No worries, no harm done! Probably totally fine to leave it up behind a spoiler - just pop a quick heads up about what it is on there for people so they have the option to avoid it :)
