Wolves 1-0 Leeds: Verdict Thread

Thought the coverage was alright, she was no worse than umpteen otger commentators

Wolves are the first team to do the double over a Bielsa team since 2014/15 in a top flight division.

Wow.
They're only the 6th team who've had the opportunity to do so in fairness.

And I assume given the wording of the opening statement at least one team doubled him in the Championship as Leeds boss.

And then an article like this pops up:

So now we are having another decision being discussed as though it favours us, when it was clearly offside and nothing to do with VAR anyway, as pre VAR this would have been given as offside and PB wouldn't have even had the opportunity to score as the whistle would have gone up as soon as lino flags.

Sigh...

Thought we were functional tonight. Some lovely attaching play in spells and some top defensive work in others.

Thought both Neto and Traore were wasteful with their passing and decision making and final balls were very poor in the whole. Jose had the physicality we need right now but he needs that goal to settle him.

I still don't think Coady is right, his passing was average for him at best and he still backs of far too much. Hopefully he comes back into form.

Our set pieces are shocking for a top flight team. All of them.

Rui obvious MotM but I thought Semedo was very good in his all round game. Looking the player we spent the money on.

His media writer would have still bitched about it.

Agree with the Semedo love, he was great. Everything Leeds do goes through Raphinha anyway so he had a pretty quiet night, but thought his pressing game was executed perfectly tonight and he joined in the attacks both by coming inside and staying outside. Thought he was outstanding tonight.

I'd quite like Raphinha. Think he's do very well here in our front 3.

He's probably the only one I'd have from that team/squad. I don't buy the Bielsa hype but they'd be relegation cannon fodder without him. He gets a lot out of some very limited players.

They'll be Sheff U next year without 3/4 quality additions. Teams should have known what they were getting with them after 2 years in the Championship under Bielsa, but just like with Sheff U who came up, playing with more or less the same players PL teams have been complacent. It can't be true, but it's almost like they've not scouted them. That won't happen in season 2

Fabio looked better with the inverted wingers. Neto and Adama were closer to him and so the 3 linked better and it, obviously, suited him

Agreed. It takes the pressure off the necessity for hold up play when your wingers are closer to you. I think he'd be better at that link-up play and ball to feet - he's no good currently at attacking aimless crosses into the box.

They said that about us TT. I think they’ll be OK, it’s what they do without Bielsa that will be the issue.

I don't think Bielsa has stayed at any club longer than two years. He tends to build the foundations and then head on his way.

Yes, that's fair, but we were more about organisation and being hard to break down, hitting teams on the counter. We also had a team of already or soon to be Internationals. Sheff U and Leeds are more about unusual offensive systems that leave them vulnerable at the back if you start to understand how they do it. The 11 on the pitch individually aren't particularly special

Thought we were decent tonight, and it caps a good mini-run points-wise.

We just about deserved the win, and while we weren't hugely troubled by them, if Costa had put that last ditch chance away we couldn't complain too much. The whole going to the corner flag with seven mins left is taking conservatism a bit too far! In those situations I don't want us going gung ho but we can still go for a second when the opportunity presents itself.

Thought Semedo had his best game for us, if he can get his shooting boots on he could be a threat. Was one of our most progressive players.

Adama was decent, and pleased he had a positive impact on the result. It may seem churlish to criticise Neto but he needs to get his head up a bit and not believe his hype too much. You don't have to try and score a wonder goal every time you have the ball mate! He's still so young though, and his confidence is a joy to behold.

Still work to be done with our forward play for me, but it got better in the second half and it will surely improve over time

I agree, with you in principle. On Sunday the right thing to do was to roll the ball over to WJ for a tap in rather than shoot, so i think you have to take the rough with the smooth.

In his defence he and Traore have spent the last 3 months being given the ball and expected to conjure something up with little support so it must be difficult to switch off that mindset

First half was as good as we’ve looked all season, lots of intent, pressed higher up the pitch and not afraid to shoot. Semedo probably should have scored. Second half we didn’t create as much but Neto should square to Jose to make it 2-0. The goal was lucky but it was an incredible hit from Adama. Thought he had a poor game in general with his passing and got knocked off the ball far too often for someone of his size but even so he causes so many more problems when he heads infield from the left. Occasionally left Jonny very isolated though as he gave him the ball and thenn ran off to the penalty area!
We were lucky to win in the end with the chances Leeds missed, Raphina’s delivery was incredible from the set pieces so I’m not sure how much was us defending them badly.
All in all very positive to see us play like that particularly from the start so long may it continue!

oh and we need to give up on Marcal, the bloke’s made of dunked rich teas
