Summer 2021 transfer window

Indeed, also the best I've ever seen in any league at refreshing teams when required (he built at least three separate superb outfits in his time, and Giggs apart there weren't many constants).

I'm not saying loans can never work, just the hit rate is very poor indeed. You can even look at Tammy Abraham for example, yes he has scored goals out on loan (although he was shite for Swansea). Does it prove he can play for Chelsea? Not really. And he isn't a better player now than when he was at Bristol City or Villa, he's the same.

I don't disagree that a bad loan would be fairly disastrous for Fabio but a good one and we could see him fly. I wonder if a club like Stoke (under O'Neil) wouldn't be a bad place for him for 6 months. It's geographically close and they play half decent football.

Thing is though we won't sign José. So if our forward signing is predominantly a wide option who *can* play through the middle (like Jota, or a better Cav at a push) - as it should be - then we need Fabio here. Campana doesn't seem to be a viable option, I think we will sell Mir while we can, Dadashov has missed a year and no-one else is going to step up.

Might have been a different story if José were any good, but he isn't.

We tend to look a lot better when Fabio is on the pitch now, admittedly this was not the case in his early appearances. I don't see it being a benefit to us to send him away, it's not like he looks scared or doesn't want to get involved.

For the record I wouldn't lend Stoke the steam off my piss :)

Think it's something to review in the summer rather than make any hard and fast plans now.

If Fabio can continue to get decent minutes through to the of the end of the season and look like he's improving in doing so, was a couple of moments when he came on against Leeds where he used his body well to protect the ball etc., then he probably makes a case for staying at Wolves to continue that understudy role. You'd also hope you've got Jimenez back as first choice by then so you can ditch Jose at the end of his loan, back to having your first choice in the team and hopefully contributing as he has previously but hopefully Nuno not quite so reliant on him for 90 minutes every week to allow Fabio to keep getting those minutes on the pitch.

The fact we rarely have a game sewn up after 70 minutes is a big problem for the development Silva. It means we have to keep Raul on the pitch if he is fit so the opportunities to give Silva plenty go game time is reduced as we are not in a position to take Raul off when only a goal up. Hopefully as he gets stronger the drop in quality between them will reduce rapidly.

Or maybe you change the way you play to put yourselves into more assertive positions more often and create those opportunities to rest the big players and blood the youngsters for short spells?

I don't think we'll get another striker in and I really doubt we're going to find someone who plays wide but is good enough down the middle.

I'm really struggling to think of a player who fits that mould, beyond say Richarlison and maybe Cav at a push.

We sold one last Summer who could have done a job. Not over it and refuse ever to be 😀
Without wanting to start a thousand page flame war, I don't think Jota would have done any good playing down the middle as a central striker

He'd have been better than any of the alternatives. Scored a CL hat trick for Liverpool playing there

I don't think he'd have been suited there in the Premier League - Europe is a totally different ball game. He was scintillating for us in the Europa League.

On the subject of Fabio going loan: I wouldn't be against him going to one of the newly relegated sides (such as Fulham) but then we leave ourselves short, and he's a better option than Mir, Dadashov, Cutrone, Bonatini and whoever else is still drifting around on our books. I suspect he'll follow a similar trajectory to Neto in that this season is a shock to the system, but he puts the work in pre-season to adapt and bulk out a bit. The difference between Silva and Neto is Silva has an excellent player in front of him currently and we only play with one ST (unless that changes).

Neto had periods like season when he was a very effective player and the difference in physique between the two is stark. Fabio is 2 seasons away from having any ability to make a sustained impact on the PL.

I'd argue Fabio has been effective in his last handful of substitute appearances: gets himself in good positions despite his poor physique and would have two more goals if not for worldie saves. We also noticeably push a few yards higher up the pitch when he is on as he defends from the front.

I'm going to stick my neck on the line and say he'll be one of our better players next season and into double figures on the goal tally across all competitions... feel free to resurrect this post on 4th March 2022 :ROFLMAO:

I think I went one further, I think after the Leicester game I said Silva would score more than Jose this season.

You're looking good for that bet mate...

He's a good player and has all of the attributes, he just needs a bit of time to settle. To be getting into the positions he is at 18 years old - in one of the best leagues in the world - is impressive.
