Wolves 3-1 Southampton: Verdict Thread

I reckon your foul mouthed rant would've eclipsed mine. Cass thought I was going to explode!

I couldn't bring myself to sing his song when he scored, mainly through sheer embarrassment.
It probably did anyway, just nobody heard mine 😂

Seriously though I was fucking livid, Pod was lining himself up and would have put that away no fuss. Ignoring the goal he did actually score seconds after (and yes it was a very well taken goal) that decision was just pure rush of blood to the head and desperation to score, at a time when we badly needed a third. Leave it to Pod and its game over, he did redeem himself but nobody knew that would happen at the time, even Bruno was going apeshit.

Flitted in and out of the game due to prior commitments. From what I saw looked a thoroughly competitive game. Southampton having the better of it at the start but not really creating anything. Great save from Sa in their only clear cut chance first half. But fortunate with the header, but them are the breaks.

This team is making really positive strides. Great to see Podence getting a run of games without injury and starting to deliver on his obvious talent.

Moutinho is outstanding. At 35 his game isn’t deteriorating. Great player.

If England play a back 3, there’s an argument to be said it could contain Coady and Kilman, what a time to be alive.

My only concern is if/when traore goes it’s crucial to get the replacement right. On what I’ve seen I wouldn’t be signing trincao, and not overly sold on hwang, so that would leave us with just Pod and Neto as the wife forwards..

And how that penalty needed to go to VAR and wasn’t just given on the pitch is beyond me

Coady now has twice as many goals as each of Neves, Moutinho and Traore (1 each), and is our joint 3rd highest goalscorer on 2 along with Saiss.

That's also 3 wins and a draw from Brighton, Chelsea, Man Utd and Southampton. I'd have hoped for 6 points there, realistically thought 4 given our record at Brighton. to get 10 is outstanding.

Coady had made a comment about Traore being a really unique footballer. Was trying to think who he might be like and looking to see if his end product stats wise was comparable to others.

in terms of just prem stats

Traore 159 appearances, 8 goals, 14 assists
Nathan Redmond - 254 appearances, 27 goals, 25 assists
Hugo Rodallega - 154 appearances, 29 goals, 12 assists.

Now reasons I have chosen them. Get Hugo was a striker but he had back to back seasons where he got 9, then 10 goals. then the rest of his 4 seasons didn't top 3 goals. Redmond has seasons where he had 6 goals twice and 7 once, but the rest of the time seems to offer a poor goal return. Sometimes I see Redmond as a neutral and think he is a decent exciting player, but I know Saints fans elsewhere I see really dislike him at times and get frustrated with him.

What I think I am arriving at is that despite how wasteful and frustrating Traore can seem, there seems to be a case he is performing relative to the level of a lower half prem player.

If people have any other suggestions but can't be bothered to look up the stats, post and I can check for you and I am into this stuff!

Not many teams can justify making a lower half PL player their top earner. If he’d sign a new contract in keeping with his output I think most of us would be happy to see him stay. At the moment he generally looks better coming on as a sub and we can’t justify the kind of salary he’s demanding for that, so looks like thanks for the memories and good luck elsewhere Adama.

Dribbles, progressive carries, shot creating actions and aerials won are where I would imagine Adama excels.

Getting the ball from our 3rd to the opposition 3rd he excels at, it's just the bit after where he struggles!

Edit - this was in response to Wilf btw

That wasn't my point but yes it does drive that home.

Probably an unpopular decision because he’s a bit of a shit, but every time I see Oriol Romeu, I always think we could use someone like that in our midfield. He’s a better player than he gets credit for. He’s one of those that you always hate coming up against, but I bet if he played for you, you’d love him.
yeah, him or Højbjerg

Romeu is very good at what he does but he's kind of a relic. Fits what Southampton do as they need someone to do all the defensive work that JWP can't since he runs like Jabba the Hutt. But I don't know if he would fit in our side. Not as we play now.

In fact, in terms of overall ability I don't think I'd take any of Saints' mids. They all excel at very specific things so they kind of work as a group, but as individuals they're no great shakes in open play.

Donk really was rubbish yesterday. I do think JWP would be a nice fit for us. Would be bloody expensive though.

Think Trincao deserves a bit more credit than I’ve seen him get thus far for his role in the buildup to the pen. A month ago I’m not sure he keeps going full speed to challenge for the loose ball that he ends up winning off of Talla (Tella?). Fair play to him.

Also, while we all rightly got swept up in the moment of Coady scoring, needs to be said that Kilman’s header was absolutely class (even if it was an inch off target).

It was a great header.

I keep watching the goal, not for the header or Coady's joy, but because Forster just behaves so weirdly, he just does nothing, absolutely awful, but hilarious.

JWP isn't the only Southampton player who moves like a space slug.

Worth mentioning that RAN came about an inch away from getting 3 assists yesterday

I like RAN. And Semedo is having a fine season. The return of JCO will create a nice selection dilemma for Bruno.

Jonny LWB, Semedo RWB, Ait-Nouri LW?
