Wolves 3-1 Southampton: Verdict Thread

Given neither seem able to stay fit for long, I think that decision will be made for us. ;)

Tongue in cheek, really, RAN has proven to be good enough defensively now that I wouldn't faff him about like that anymore.

And how that penalty needed to go to VAR and wasn’t just given on the pitch is beyond me
I've had a couple of other fans say VAR gifted us that one as he got a touch on the ball.

Ignoring the fact he wiped the player out afterwards. It was unlucky, but a penalty nonetheless.

I would be very surprised if Jonny came back the same player/ didn't get reinjured again tbh. An ACL followed by repeat rupture and repeat surgery is ominous.

Sadly for him, it wouldn't surprise me if his career got cut short. Really hope it doesn't.

Do you think we could convert Jonny to LCB? He's good enough defensively, it'd just be the positioning he'd have to learn. Bit short too. Maybe not...

If fit our best 2 wing backs are RAN and Jonny. I'd play them both, there's no reason the old Jonny couldn't play on the right. No need to rush anything though

Always felt Jonny a bit too conservative to a bona fide wingback, more of an orthodox fullback given his solid defensive capabilities. Hard to judge exactly how much of that perception is founded on him playing down the 'wrong' side though, perhaps over on the right where things should open up for him a little more naturally he might look a little more incisive.

Good footballer to have available though, be a great option to have either side if you're coming up against a side with a particularly threat down one of the flanks or to come off the bench and shore things up in a close game.

I always thought it was more a case of not wanting to overload down both sides and Doherty being always up there. I think he'd make more intelligent use of the ball than Semedo does if put in the same situations

I don't think he suddenly magics up better support than Semedo does, if anything he's probably less equipped than Semedo to try and dig something out of his own making when isolated in wide positions. That argument on the wingbacks has been done over and over though.

I'd only see Marcal as a more conservative option at wingback than Jonny out of any of the other genuine options though. As good a footballer as he is.

Our two wing back/full backs are definitely RAN and Semedo.

Jonny would absolutely have to play himself back into this side.

As much I love him, this side has evolved and the new players have come in and done a fantastic job.

Teams change - it’s a bit like Boly, who was an absolute superstar a couple of years ago - players don’t just walk back into our side any more.

Which absolutely shows how much we’ve grown and improved as a squad.

If your wing backs are running the wing in each game, they really should be out of energy after 70 mins, so a third option like Jonny to come on at either side is ideal. Either way, you can be sure over the course of a season 3 quality WBs would all get plenty of game time.

RAN is to me what Boly was to Kenny. I fucking love him.

I think a few people are forgetting just how good Jonny is. Out of sight, out of mind, I guess.

RAN has been excellent too, so it’s a nice problem for Bruno to have.

His Grealish socks annoy me a lot though
He's not Grealish so I don't care. Loved the look of him when I watched that Angers game when the news about us signing him broke and he's just getting better and better. Improving defensively and his delivery is becoming a real weapon, that free kick yesterday was superb.
