January 2022 Transfer Thread

We're not really holding out hope for Sanches, are we?

Seems as dead as dead can be, that.
Lots of suggestions that we’ll go back in for him on SM, but they probably know the square root of fuck all. Would be a hell of a signing and if Adama goes, we’ve got no excuses to not go out and make it happen (if Renato’s up for it).

Haha, come on mate, you surely know in every match day thread where things aren't going well, there'll be loads of 'if only we still had Adama' comments
Less of them if he’s shit for Spurs so I’m with Paddington.

"In a phone call with Jorge Mendes, Lage said that was “cleaning guys” who should have been “cleaned” in Rui Vitória’s time.

So he wanted Jorge to give them a bath? Otherwise wth does it mean?

Interesting developments with Renato Sanches reportedly halting talks of a contract extension with Lille with an eye on a potential new project. His contract with the French club expires at the end of next season. A move has always looked very probable, maybe for a reduced price. https://t.co/sEz42pmC9D

Cue 10 days of excitement and false rumours about him being in England followed by Sanchez joining AC Milan

Little Liam says Adama is in the squad for tomorrow as things stand as in the hotel

Very much doubt that if he is included tomorrow he gets back on the coach to Molinuex after the match.

Spiers has released an article saying that Bruno has gone back on his “top priority” (a centre back), as Saiss only misses one more game and Gomes has impressed him enough to stay. So it’s Saiss, Coady, Kilman - backed up by Gomes and if we’re desperate, Marcal & Donk.

I can envisage a centre mid coming in, if Adama goes.

Fabio seems to have done enough to alleviate any fears we had should Raul get injured. We’re good for numbers in the wide positions and at wing back. So really, it’s only central midfield where we’re lacking numbers right now.

Just read Bruno's comments about not signing someone for 3 or 4 months but to be a permanent upgrade, which I think we can all get on board with. The issue I have is we hear it twice a year, so although it continues to make sense in isolation at some point those players need to come.

I can see Adama going and no one coming in this month tbh. Which is not the end of the world if Kilman and Joao continue this season's form and with Neto and Jonny hopefully contributing to a high level before the summer.

That money needs putting towards a significant CM signing in the summer though

CM is the issue for me. We are one injury / Moutinho burnout away from a serious downgrade in Donck or an untried kid. If both were injured then I think the season would peter out

You'd hope if the right target is available and the Adama money helps push it over the line then we'd go for it this month, with Europe still a realistic aim?

Bruno has basically got Stockholm Syndrome at this point. He's been fucked over from wanting '3-4 top players and we can do something special' to 'we can have a negative net spend and finish 8th with Toti, Jordao and Chiqinho in the squad, and that's special too'
