Should we make fertiliser bombs legal then? After all they're only petrol and fertiliser until somebody pulls the trigger.

I've tried hard to stay away from discussions about gun control on the internet for a long time but you'll get a $#@!ing earful if you don't stop.

I'm entitled to my opinion. I am not justifying the murder of anybody I am just saying that if there is a motive it doesn't matter how they go about it. Gun control / banning guns will not necessarily stop a ' maniac ' committing atrocities.

Papper, would you feel the same about gun laws if it was one of your family, friend, relative, neighbour who was a victim of a deadly shooting ,accident or not ?

If somebody murdered any of my family/close friends I would not be the best person to judge retribution for obvious reasons. I guess that's why we don't have the death penalty in this country. I can understand how Lycanthropist feels the way he does.

If over 20 dead primary school kids doesn't convince the US then who gives a fuck about a few teenagers. (from the gun lobby perspective)

In fairness, it's not "The US" citizenry as a whole that is the problem, it's the politicians and special interest groups that have become so entrenched in the process. There were reforms that had overwhelming support by citizenry but failed due to politics. Ugh. :( And yes I realize the citizenry at the idiots voting the fucktards into office. The entire system needs to be blown up.

I doubt someone could take out a class of 20 kids with a anything other than a gun, tbh.

In fairness, kids are pretty easy to beat up. Could probably do it without weapons if you really had the inclination.

disclaimer: please no one go try to kill a classroom of kids with their bare hands

Only the law. Fertiliser bombs are illegal.

Silly logic.

Awwww, sounded fun :(

Out of interest, Papper, why do you think people don't generally kill people with the other means? Pencils are often used as an example of something you can kill people with. And as Tech says, it's pretty easy to kill kids (I'll take his word for it). Why are there not loads of pencil-based school massacres? Why go for a gun?

I suppose it's the same reason why we didn't go into Iraq with cricket bats, black widow spiders and bags of deadly nightshade.

Don't you dare patronise me you ignorant fuck.

I am calmly telling you to shut the $#@! up you ignorant, patronising piece of $#@!.

Ignore me. I am now longer addressing you and didn't address you in the first instance. Don't take your anger out on me please.

Not really. Unless you're assuming that someone who goes into a school with a gun does so because he thinks he's likely to find a bunch of tooled up kids.

No it's safe to assume children are not tooled up in schools. Then again I don't understand how the minds of murderers work as I am not inclined that way. The psychology of committing murder and the weapon of choice is for somebody else to explain. I was merely stating an opinion that banning guns or strict gun control does not prevent murder if a maniac wishes to commit murder. Out of respect to Lycanthropist my input on this thread now ends.

Having speed limits and seatbelts doesn't prevent all deaths in road traffic accidents, they don't half help reduce the possibility though.

I understand what you're getting at Papper but there is a reason more gun crimes occur with the availability of guns. Look at the toddler article, would that have happened if guns laws were so tight that gun needed to be in a locked box and the threat of an automatic 5 year sentence if found with one that isn't licensed or kept in its box?

We will never stop people that are unhinged trying to commit murders but if all they have is access to a newspaper they will be less likely to go on a killing spree. Finally, how do you identify these people before they commit crimes? We're in Philip K. Dick territory with minority report.

Maybe so but my point was that a maniac intent on such atrocity will find other ways. I don't see why anybody would need a gun except for sport, but guns are readily available and gun crime is consistently reported.
