Ask Wolves

In China, Korea is considered the pinnacle of 'cool'. If something is trending in Korea, China (and lots of Asian countries) will lap it up. I've no doubt that Lage is under pressure to keep Hwang involved to the detriment of others. Hwang's SM output often completely contradicts the result or performance (team or individual) of the match that has just taken place - it's all about engagement of the international fan who probably didn't even watch the game that just happened.

It's all very unsettling - that Shi interview was bitterly disappointing for anyone whose sole interest in the Wolves is the performance of the team on the pitch. It's as if that has become an after-thought. The only thing I can cling to is that the global "brand" must, surely, rely on the first team staying in the PL. It seems as though we'll be mid-table at best for the foreseeable - it's what informed the appointment of this manager and the attitude to recruitment since the Silva/Semedo window (when I can only assume the strategy was different).
Aiming for mid-table all but guarantees relegation.

So #howshitishwang trending in Korea will be seen in china as a good thing how? Will those millions of Chinese fans we have be thinking cool Hwang is shit?

Not easy to replicate United's trophy haul though is it, they were fortunate enough to be top dogs when the PL really went big in the Asian market.
While this is true you're taking my point a tad literally.

Success on the pitch, it is that simple. Making top 6/7 on a consistent basis would be a start, more exposure through European competition, etc.

I'm not saying we need to win the league every year. But to try would be a damned lot more productive and conducive to what they want than handicapping the team's potential for the sake of social media engagement halfway around the world.

It's false economy anyway. You aren't getting the £12m paid for Hwang back in increased YouTube ad rev or merchandise sales. That's before you take into account the costs lost by not playing a footballer. It's a vanity project for the home market and the ownership, not a revenue stream

Is this the first proven case in football history when a player’s potential for ‘likes’ is more important than his ability?

Jeff should be on black mirror.

It’s quite amazing that Fosun managed to get the club into a great position where a bit of decent investment would have probably seen us qualify for Europe 2 or 3 times by now and instead they’re in the process of fucking it right up.

I’m becoming more and more disillusioned with modern football in general. The ticket prices, player wages, changing the kits every season and charging a fortune for them. It pisses me off but I could accept it if we were going places on the pitch. However, it looks like another dull season of Lage ball and us being near the wrong end of table. Joy.

As I (we?) suspected we are now in a hiatus until we are relegated. E-sports and sub standard Asian players are what interests the owners not entertaining football for legacy fans.

Fosun have turned into the dreadful owners we assumed they would be.

Out of light cometh darkness.
Let's go back and re-employ Jez. We wouldn't be any where near where we are now if it wasn't for Fosun

I was thinking about this earlier. If Hwang ends up being seen amongst the match going fans as the face of the whole esports/corporate side of Wolves (and it's becoming clearer by the day that he's only at the club because of his nationality) the poor guy is going to end up getting dogs abuse. There might be 'only' 200k 'legacy fans' in Wolverhampton but they make up the majority of match going fans and the club might not like it but when 30k of them are inside Molineux they still have a voice. Not going to look too good back home when their golden boy is getting booed every time he dribbles the ball straight out of play like a Korean Jérémy Hélan.

Of course we wouldn't, that doesn't mean we can't be critical and worried when it looks to be unravelling.

Especially if people are paying (more and more) to support us.

I genuinely hate this type of comment, it's similar to the "we were playing Crawley 5 years ago" responses.

There's nothing smugger than the you can't criticise anything about the club brigade. Always here with their I'll judge at the end of the window comments, but surprisingly silent until the next one. Most probably still believe we were constrained by FFP last year because Jeff told them it was so

Indeed it's bullshit from people who follow us on social media. No financial investment in the club and no interest other than watching on TV.

He’s just said ffp again in his ask wolves

The most alarming element in there is the club believing that the offer for Jota was too good to turn down. If that was £45m guaranteed, I can begrudgingly say fair enough. However, all of the detail that has come out since that deal completed shows that we had our pants pulled down and at the same time immediately handed over £10m back to them for a defender who won't ever make the grade.

I have little to no doubt that the same will happen again with Neves.

I've always been a miserable bastard 😉.
In all seriousness I think it's Fabio that turned most to question Jeff and Fosun rather than anything Nuno related.

I have the unfortunate characteristic of sometimes being a bit of a contrary twat, so when things are going well I get more critical, and when they're clearly beginning to go to shit I desperately look for silver linings...

I’ve only managed to sit through the first 10 minutes of Jeff Shi. The patronising twat.

It took him 2 minutes to mention “esports”. He has already commented that he is happy with how things are going “on and off the pitch”, and he’s banged on about the “brand”, whilst happily dismissing 200k local fans several times.

I can’t fucking stand the guy.
