Beer

I applaud the 'rise' of IPAs.
They're ok if you're thirsty, very refreshing indeed, but my local supermarket has just 3 small shelves for beer. there around 18 different brands all of which are IPA's, around 12 different lagers/Polish beers 6 ciders and 1beer. and that shitty bottle is Smithwicks Red ale.

Hearing good things about the DEYA/LHG/Verdant - Little Summer Beer Bash collaboration.
Anyone tried this beer?

Yeah, had it in a can earlier this month. It's good, but not exceptional. Definitely worth a punt.

For quite a while now my favourite beers have been Hobgoblin The Goblin one black label at 6.5%, and The top end of the Speckled Hen range Wise Old Buzzard or something like that. Slightly complex flavours but now I've moved onto McKewans Champion. Just a delicious pint. So, that and Brown Leffe in the big 750ml bottle. Superb beers.

Japanese Banana beer. A hard ‘do not recommend’ from me.

Was in a self service craft beer bar in Nottingham on Saturday. Interesting experience as you pour your own stuff you can have as little or as much as you like. When you pour you can see exactly how much of a pint you're getting and the exact cost at the same time. I also enjoyed watching lots of people being perplexed by the whole thing too.

Looks like it was scooped out of the sea around Cornwall at the weekend
Unusually got better the further down I got. Still decidedly a one pint only drink.

Sad news, not my favourite brewer but I had got into the habit of buying a small barrel every Christmas to share with family.

The only brewery brave enough to open a craft beer bar in Wolves - fair play to them 😟

The idea of the bar (it wasn't a pub) was fine but the execution was shit. I couldn't stand it in there.

The Parisian occupies that space now and does what it does very well, not really a matchday venue though.

As far as layout goes it wasn't the best, but they did have some decent beers on in there. Plus it never gets old watching some idiot come in and try and order a pint of Carling/Fosters.

I do find it odd that basically every other town or city I go too has at least one craft beer bar (I was in Hanley earlier in the year FFS) yet Wolves doesn't.

Would opening one a new one in the city centre be successful? The majority of my mates are default Carling drinkers and scoff at paying anymore for craft beer. Real Ale seems to be having a resurgence. I’ve been to the micropub in Claregate a couple of times and it’s been busy.

Slaters we’re always a little more real ale than craft ale anyway I’d say. Their micro pub in Stafford was really good, I’m just not really that fond of their beer. Haka was ok.

Round here I think they were just outspent (on pubs, marketing and beer) by Titanic.

There's one on the Stafford Road in Oxley that seems to do OK too.

Outside of a matchday then it's very rare I'd choose to drink in the city centre these days. Only if I were meeting someone from further afield who didn't have time to go anywhere else. In which case Boho or the Parisian would do.

On the beer front it’s a great weekend for me: my village pub has Bathams, Tim Taylor Boltmaker and Bass on as the ales of the weekend. Only downside is I just can’t drink enough nowadays to enjoy them all, it’s an embarrassment of riches.
