Following on from the World XI, best Wolves XI, let's do a best England XI.

Similar to the one DW did for the Wolves XI there will be votes each day for each position. Formation will be 442 or 4411. I've started at 1978 as the demographic of membership on here won't do justice to the heroes of 66 as most on here are not that old so the votes would be skewed. (I've watched the 66 World Cup final a few times and Alan Ball was fantastic but I can't vote for him on the basis of watching one game!)

3 Choices for each position except centre halves where there will be 4. For centre forwards there will be a vote for one forward and then a vote for who to pair with them.

1st Choice 3 points, 2nd Choice 2 points, 3rd Choice 1 point. The winner for each position will be those with the most points. I'll try and do a position every 24 hours - Cut off time midday.

1. Seaman
2. Martyn
3. Hart (he was decent for a couple of years, before teams discovered he couldn't dive low to his left post)

I always thought Shilton was over-rated - certainly for England. Plus it shouldn't matter, but his political views make Karl Henry look like a Trot, so stuff him

Results for Goalkeeper

Seaman 34
Shilton 25
Clemence 11
Martyn 9
James 3
Woods 1
Hart 1
Robinson 1

Centre Halves Next - Please pick four - Result Monday at midday

Walker cost us a penalty in the first game of the 2018 World Cup and the equaliser against Croatia in the semi's - Never a centre half.
