Best holiday destinations

Anyone been to Portmeirion? Thinking of a day trip or maybe overnight but the hotel is a hefty price. Never looked at it before, looks really unique. But maybe something that you only need an hour at?

Went there when was holidaying nearby once, quirky place to walk around for half a day or so, few shops but they're pricey. Think there was a decent walk you could do along the coast a bit and through the wider estate.

Don't think I'd want to stay there for a prolonged period.

Stay in Porthmadog, get the bus T2 from there to portmeirion about 10 minute trip, it stops at the entrance, portmerion is ok for a day trip for the whole prisoner vibe and walk round, think it’s a fiver ( was when I went, probably gone up now) entry.
Porthmadog is a nice little place with a harbour, Tremadog just up the road is the birthplace of T.E.Lawrence (of Arabia fame) and there’s a little museum in his old house

Entry is definitely more than a fiver!
That said it's a pleasant day out. Explore the woods & coastline there as well as the village. We visited in 2008, & have recently been talking about going back as we had a nice day there.

Cheeky sod! I last went in 2018

Keef obvs looks pretty fucking young then! Or his memory is fucked.

Talking of holidays in Wales, we’ve just booked for a night in Barmouth in a couple of weeks time. Amazingly, it will be the first time I’ve ever been there. We must be the only family in the West Midlands who have never been before!

Officially I’m half Welsh and the only time I’ve ever been to Wales was for the Play Off Final 🤣

Barmouth gets a bad press sometimes but I quite like it in an old school British seaside resort type way.

The walk/cycle to Dolgellau is great, especially across the wooden bridge, but what do I know? Lol.

We’re off to York at the end of the Summer holidays but we just wanted a day/night away at the beach for the kids. We’re not fussy when it comes to seaside towns.

Sorry didn't mean it's grim in general, just grim for a stag do in June 1998. Not particularly lively and 20 English blokes wandering around and going to the 1 nightclub got the local youth excited

If you’re off to York, you should have popped over the NY Moors to Whitby for a seaside day/night out.

That being said I enjoyed my only visit to Barmouth. Lovely scenery on the drive and the weather was kind on the day.

Discovered Whitby last September, lovely place. We had a fortnight in Yorkshire waiting for our granddaughter to be born so did the second week at Scarborough and travelled to Whitby.

We missed her birth by 6 days!

On the York, Scarborough, Whitby area - is Flamingo Land still open?

Had a summer job in the fairground there almost 50 years ago and my brother still owns a farm just a couple of miles away.
