Brentford 1-2 Wolves: Verdict Thread

I think the Edwards comparison is unfair. I'd say he's more like Karl Henry, without the reactionary idiotic viewpoints. He works hard, he puts himself about and his work ethic can never be questioned. Problem is, he's not great at passing, he's not great at tackling, he doesn't score, he doesn't run with ball, he's just THERE, trying really hard. We need better. End of story.

Merely stated that I hoped he’s not on the reported £75k/ week. Really not that outrageous a claim. Even the staunchest Donck fan would tell you that’s terrible business based on now the club is run.

What am I going to do about it? Hope he’s not on it like I said…
I'd read somewhere he was on £130k but I'm not telling you that (al ot of sites are reporting £90k)

He sort of reminds me of a scaled up version of the odd chap you get rock up to a game of five a side and attempt to play a particular position. He's just incredibly one dimensional, want to find him on the pitch just look some slightly right of centre and he'll be in that channel somewhere like a train on a track, you give him the ball and 90% of the time he'll give it you back within 2 touches.

Modern footballers need to be more rounded, they need to do more, most of the time he's just there, a body, a number. He doesn't often left you down completely, though there have been some costly mistakes at centre half in particular, but it's like sticking on 12 in a game of blackjack when you play him, it's just so uninspiring.

I like Donk, but my biggest problem with him is that when he’s playing, he’s the one pushing forward, which relegates Neves to holding hands with the CB’s. There’s zero reason why Donk should be the one in or at the top of the box. Hell, even Mou has shown what he can do closer to goal in the last few weeks, and his scoring record is terrible.

Donk’s had a few dozen good opportunities of which he’s scored… like 2? Assisted just as many?

edit — mind you this is a problem with how we use him. For god knows what reason. His height in the box obviously isn’t doing us any good.

I wonder if Donk is the result of the 'Raul Jimenez' problem in midfield. It's unlikely we'll get someone much better than Donk if they're not guaranteed to be a starter in every match. We're unlikely to find anyone good enough to displace Neves or Moutinho either.

This summer might be a big opportunity though if Moutinho moves on

I think there's been one nonsense link from a terrible source saying Moutinho is going to Roma. Nothing else to suggest he's leaving, he has a young family and is settled here. Nor should we be letting him go.
Absolutely, time marches on though. He'll be 36 next season, it would be madness to not think about succession planning

He reminds me a bit of Gordon Cowans (one for the kids there) - just never seems to be affected by age; I was ready to have his replcement in place 2 season ago but he's as good, if not better, this season.

I'd be very surprised if there isn't a midfielder out there who's better than Donk, that is willing to come here to compete with Neves/Donk for a starting place.

Couple of young midfielders must be available somewhere you'd think.

We're going to need at least 2 midfielders, one to give João a break and one to compete with Neves.

I thought Donk was crap on Saturday. Everything about him at the moment is rubbish. Kills momentum with the ball, too slow to press effectively, doesn't think quickly enough on or off the ball and has no creativity or anticipation.

I'd be binning him in the summer.

I certainly wouldn't mind rolling the dice with Jordao or Cundle the next time we play with 3 in midfield. At least see how they respond.

We know what Donk is at this point, for better and worse he's not going to be the guy who wins or loses the match for us 99 times out of 100.

The fact Donck is ahead of Jordao as an #8 doesn’t look good for Jordao’s long term prospects here.

I literally have no idea how good he is but he’s not a kid anymore so if he’s not a getting a go ahead of a medicore DM as our most advanced midfielder then what does that say?

Watched MOTD earlier. The blocking for their goal is really smart. It looks like Toney is unmarked, but when you watch it Donck would have comfortably got to him if they hadn't tag teamed to stop him. Nothing a ref is going to pick up and VAR won't look at that

When Jordao went out on loan last season I'm I read that they were playing him right back ? If so I'd say that doesn't bode well either, if he can't get a game in his preferred position in a weaker league.

Jordao is effectively starting his Wolves career again, needs to be bedded in again. Give it time.
