Brighton 0-1 Wolves: Verdict Thread

Realistically it’s why we should have gone for Watkins or Toney a year or so ago . I wouldn’t mind Chris wood either. I know he’s knocking on but he can hold the ball up well and he scores both cf type goals and poachers finishes. Extra height in defence and he could work in the current system. Now that’s just me. No need for any machine gunning ! I know most won’t rate him but given the money he would do a decent job and Fabio can go on loan for two years
What do you mean though, "we should have gone for" them?

We should have paid about £30m for a Championship forward when we only play one forward who is miles better than them?

And Burnley are going to sell their only striker, are they. Of course.

You're being very free with someone else's wallet and they wouldn't come here to sit on the bench, would they. This is bollocks, mate.

One player isn't going to make much difference anyway, it's a wider issue.

We went for Toney iirc? Fell through 500k?
We thought about Wood two or three years ago and there were plenty of rumours again iirc.
And Villa just paid up for Watkins, less than we paid for Fabio. I would take Watkins every day over Fabio but hey ho. We have no back up for Raul as last night showed.

Toney was under Ken wasn't it? even before he went to Newcastle? can't really relate that to now.

The point is Watkins wouldn't have come here at the time as a) he went to Villa because of Smith and b) in our formation he'd have known injury aside he'd be sitting.on the bench. Now as it stands I'd like to see us with a 2 (although I'd never have abandoned it in the first place) and he would have played 2/3 of a season last year because of Raul situation. Kenny Jackett was manager when we went after Toney.

Cutrone was.the right type.of signing, just the wrong player

Christ that doesn’t seem that long ago! Jesus! Where does time go?
whatever, I am still not happy with our finishing ability. Hwang may be out now too so we need to consider that. The answer is not, and realistically never has been Fabio Silva.
So if Fosun are f do ping their business on the cheap if at all in January we can’t aim to high. Wood would be within cost but I accept Burnley would be very reluctant to sell

You could make this argument for any signing about any non-signing. It's a non-sequitur.

We appear to have whiffed hard on Fabio. What the club does next is what is important, not nonsense whataboutism.

It’s really about learning from mistakes rather than whatsboutism. He who hesitated is lost and we have blinked a lot in the last few windows and I have little confidence we won’t repeat the mistakes this coming window. That is a bit frustrating to say the least

Why are you all still awake???

I guess I'd rather talk about who we should sign rather than who we could have signed, but I see your point, Jas.

Watkins could have played off the left like Jota. Did that plenty for Brentford when Maupay was there
Watkins Raul or Watkins Hwang would be a great two or even Raul Hwang which doesn’t get played enough in my view

We definitely lack a physical presence up front. I'd say Rafa Mir, but alas.

I just don't see any of our forwards consistently make life hell for defenders. Give them something to think about. Raul does it, but not consistently. And he's not the sort who is really going to leave a mark on Prem CHs.

I dunno. We're just woefully static up front at the moment. Although that did get a bit better in the second half yesterday whilst not really improving our output.

And cutrone was the right sort of price. Where the fuck they got 35m for Fabio from I will never know but we have all been round that far too often, As I say , if you’re reading this Fosun please learn from the previous windows

Much narrower than we have ever played ours
He could have played it no question in my mind. Might have even meant we played 3-4-3 properly rather than employing the horseshoe), which I still have no idea why this happened/happens (we certainly played it narrow in the championship). Is it the players we have being more comfortable out wide so play to their strengths? Is it players lacking confidence so go where there’s more space? (certainly the case for Costa in PL). Is it managerial instruction to literally never have more than 1 man in the box? (completely stupid if it is/was)

We actually played that lopsided 352 for the majority of the first games and then went to the 4, and then just a mess after that.

All I know is that in my mind he could have played off the left and then when Raul got injured could have players down the middle. Would be the ideal “Jota replacement”.

But we signed Fabio instead, but we know that was a bung.
