Brighton 3-3 Wolves: Verdict Thread

If that is the case then we should sell Traore as he can’t play in 3-4-3 at all, particularly without inverted wing backs.

We should be changing our recruitment strategy to buying a high pressure CF like Vardy instead of a player with relatively poor pace like Fabio.

If we do go 4-3-2-1 then a player like MGW may well fit the bill and is probably worth recalling in Jan to play behind a CF.

This is not a criticism aimed at you, as your analysis is interesting, but this discussion sounds like a bit of a revolution and concerns me slightly if that's what's needed.

Changing so much of our style and personnel seems a big risk, even if we were to throw millions more at it. Were we that broken to begin with?

All good points. I wouldn't want to come across as overly harsh, I just think as a community on here we're quite soft on Nuno and Fosun (and rightly so to a degree), so considering other perspectives gives a little more balance (imo of course).

It's OK to have high expectations, doesn't necessarily equate with being entitled and spoiled (I can understand that criticism being levelled at some social media numpties), it's a compliment in many ways.
What are the expectations though? Progress is never ever ever a continual upward curve. Never has been for any team in history.

Were people seriously thinking we'd push for the Champions League this season (or indeed last)? If you set the bar ludicrously high then of course you'll end up disappointed.

First paragraph I agree with, second is just over-exaggeration to prove your point. I haven't stated my expectations, so you can't surmise they're ludicrously high. Also, the season isn't finished so there's nothing to be elated or disappointed about with any certainty.

It's not as simple as 'we finish 7th so next year I expect 6th', there are obviously more variables. I'm hoping for a stronger and more cohesive last third of the season, but if we finish lower mid table and we don't look like we're dominating games more, scoring more goals or even conceding less, I can't see what tangible progression that would be.

I think your accusations of presumption could easily be levelled at anyone who thinks that because we're maybe taking a step back that the next couple of seasons will be steps forward. That's no more guaranteed or likely than continual upward progression

It was fun to contemplate for a brief window last season when it was mathematically possible, but it's such a big ask as to be best put out of mind for now.

There's ambition and then there's nonsense

Well if we go on a run of Newcastle/Palace style 13th placed finishes after two years of 7th place, of course I'll view that as regression.

For now though I think it's massive overreaction to a game we didn't even lose. And the in-game comments (Stearman-esque "pashun" or not) were absolutely disgraceful, as they frequently are on here.

Each to their own, but that second part doesn't wind me up really, it's not like Nuno or the players can hear it and I don't think people moaning on here would do the same at a match, where it would have a detrimental effect.

The problem I feel comes when you have overreaction to the overreactions, and then overreaction to that. I can't say my hands are spotless in this regard, but I'm trying :)

It does wind me up when you have people who are nowhere to be seen when we win but are all over it when we lose (or not lose, like Saturday). And when it becomes a competition as to who can be the most righteously angry. Always people who never actually go to games (when we were allowed) too.

"The worst we've seen under Nuno" FFS. Hi, remember us losing 3-0 to double relegated Sunderland? I do. Not to mention losing twice to Huddersfield who won one other game all season.

It's ridiculous hyperbole, all the time. I hate those threads, I'd rather we didn't have them. Don't give me the "passion" and "heat of the moment" stuff, imagine some dickhead behind you at the game coming out with that crap for the entire 90 minutes.

I didn't personally agree with us being mentioned in talk of relegation, but I didn't feel the need to play the 'I'm outraged' card straight away either. I'd prefer to simply disagree, or ignore.

Some people see the positive in everything, some are more critical, some think everything's always about to go to shit. You've had all types on football forums since forever, and they can all be exasperating in their own way.

I personally have no problem with people engaging emotionally or critically with football, seems perfectly normal to me. I do find speaking out against sanctimony hard to resist though, I admit! ;)

You can disagree with 'moaning' or find it annoying, but there's plenty of hyperbole from the other 'side' too. The wrong person criticises the wrong thing and they apparently want Nuno out or some other nonsense. There's little middle ground, and the response to 'moaners' is rarely constructive itself.

There are also people whose only contribution to the matchday thread seems to be coming on late and dramatically denouncing people, usually when the temperature is high anyway, and with little reference to the game or their own opinion on it. That's what usually starts the escalation, and I think most of the shitstorms come from posters being pissed off with each other rather than with Nuno or the team. It's goading, plain and simple. Then throwing your hands up when it all kicks off

I don't think it makes someone a superfan or otherwise whether they have a moan on here or not tbh. I wouldn't want a 'dickhead' behind me, but I wouldn't want a self-satisfied goader either!
