Burnley 2-1 Wolves: Verdict Thread

Quite a glass-half-full way to look at it.

Alternatively...in the past couple of seasons we've needed a CB upgrade and a Doc replacement. At this point we could very well have a double failure on our hands.

In terms of a Raul backup, Cutrone didn't work either, and then we chose a talented kid who probably isn't what we want when we need him.

Donk has been in and out of the team doing generally OK in various positions, Adama is doing so well 3/4 of the forum want to sell him. Marcal is a solid Jonny stand-in, then we have half a dozen kids we're pinning our hopes on in 12-18 months.

So really, only Neto and Podence have really cemented any kind of strong claim at a first team slot. Very good individual players. But even then, questions of how they link with each other and the rest of the team remain.
I don't think it's glass half full in terms of appraising the strategy which has been adopted. I think it is if you think the strategy was correct in all instances. I've said previously that i think this Summers recruitment focussed too much on the long term and not enough on the short, but that's the route we went down, so Hoever, Silva, Ait Nouri etc have to be judged within that prism

I'd love to see us make a move for Rudiger. He's dropped down the pecking order at Chelsea and he would instantly improve our starting 11.

I wonder if we could temp Brighton to part with someone like Bissouma?

I think a lot of the big players are sniffing around Bissouma. Plus Brighton showed with Dunk that they hold out for absolute top dollar or the player stays.

Yeah, no hope with Bissouma, they have no financial need to sell and wouldn't be weakening themselves when they're in a relegation scrap (they should be fine, mind).

Rüdiger is on crazy money. I'd prefer Tomori as there's a hell of a player in there and he never gets a kick now.

Agree on Tomori. We should be in for him if we prioritise a defender.
Can’t work out Bissouma. Always threatens to be good but without influencing games that much, but could be who he plays for and when he goes to a better team he makes that jump with ease

Thirded on Tomori, I think the kid's got the lot

Bissouma has been Brighton's best player this season he always influences the games I've seen I'd love him at Wolves but he will be at a Champions League team soon I think.

I know you're trying to make a point about fickleness but I'm not sure this is all really true.

I don't think anyone on here has ever thought Saiss was anything other than our third choice CB at best, and he was always one of the main upgrade targets along with Benno and Doc.

Nuno even upgraded him (twice!) in midfield when we got promoted, and he wasn't really considered much as a regular CB until we found replacing Bennett difficult.

Is there anyone ahead of him in the upgrade stakes apart from Ruddy?

Doesn't mean he's a bad player, he can have storming games sometimes and is valuable in a squad sense, and seems a lovely bloke, but when he has ricks I think it reminds most people that he probably isn't quite good enough for where we want to be
Yeah its a bit of a tongue in cheek jibe at fickleness but I was seeing quite a lot of over the top comments (pro Saiss) after a couple of games recently....not so much on this forum tbf.
My main point is every player has 'a mistake in them'

Personally don't think Rudiger is significantly better than Saiss.
Not seen enough of Tomori but wouldn't he be classed as another 'one for the future'?

He'd be one with upside, but he'd go straight into our team based on his form at Chelsea and Derby over the previous 2 seasons. My worry would be Lampard had him at Derby, started him at Chelsea, but had phased him about before the end of last season when their defence was a mess and without signing another centre half. What if anything does he know?

They signed Silva since then.

No room for Tomori, Rudiger, Christensen, Zouma and Silva. It may be something as simple as they needed a captain at the back, which we obviously have. Bar Silva I wouldn't say any of those players are influential captain material, particularly when your goalkeeper is as piss weak as Kepa was.

Very much like Kante in his approach. I like him too.

Nuno on the ref comments "I should apologise for the timing of my comments. Probably was not in the best moment. But I will not apologise for my words or my thoughts.

Azpilicueta plays as RCH when they go to a back three quite often too so there's another obstacle.

It's that he's getting no football at all that makes me think we'd have a shot, albeit a distant one.

Could play RB in a four too if we wanted him to.
