Er, I’ve just seen this. Don’t know if it’s legit or not...

Sounds BS but it’s so stupid it could be true

Why does it all have to be so black and white all the time?

Everyone can see Foden is a massive talent so no surprise he's doing better than MGW but why dismiss Jones' appearances as purely down to other's injuries when he's performed well and ended up keeping his place ahead of more experienced competition? Why dismiss Rice when he's but a year older than the arbitrary age set by MGW? Especially when he was already playing more regularly at a younger age, same could be said of Mount.

MGW has rarely done anything of note in a Wolves shirt, I don't need comparisons with others to tell me that. He is still young though so it might change, doesn't mean everyone else's achievements have to be caveated in some way to make him appear better than he currently is though.

It'll be the nice, safe, experienced 343, I'd imagine. I'd like to see:

Rui
Semedo Coady Boly RAN
Neves Vitinha
Podence MGW Traore
Silva

Jose will start for sure, Nuno keeps talking him up and he has kind of scored in the last two.

More assists than Traore. Get him in

I was simply pointing out that in midfield terms MGW is still young in response to a claim he isn’t “that young anymore”. I agree he needs to show more if he wants a long term future at Wolves but it’s hardly surprising his opportunities have been limited when we generally play two in midfield and as we have been struggling Nuno has shown no inclination move from Moutinho and Neves. Now we’re safe I think it would make sense to give him a run of games.

Is he a genuine option in a conventional midfield though? A lot of the people put up previously to try and diminish the point were dismissed as not being midfielders but is MGW one himself? He gets used in more advanced positions far more often than deeper ones to my memory, I'd put him as much closer to someone like Eze than Rice for example.

Age can be a difficult barometer at times, for me the bigger doubt around him would come from the time he's been around the first team rather than absolute age. It's got to be 4 years or something by now since his debut? Has he really come along much in that time? Granted he hasn't had that much playing time through that period but he's been training with the first team squad, had a loan at a competitive level and still doesn't look to be greatly improved from what I've seen.

Foden has had his exposure managed, to a point that many have criticised Guardiola for not using him enough or even saying that he should move to pastures new, since he first got opportunities in the team but you could always see him developing and earning the right for more game time to the point now that he doesn't look out of place in their first team at all. MGW by comparison is still very much a downgrade on the players ahead of him for a starting position.

Foden has been brought on perfectly imo, started off with short appearances and gradually increased time on the pitch and of course he's playing in the best team with other top players. MGW has never had that, rather he's just had bits and pieces, usually when we've been desperate, at the risk of continually repeating myself he needs more time on the pitch and more regularly.

I think sometimes the importance of playing time can be misconstrued, to my mind there is far more time and potential to improve upon yourself in training than there is in a competitive match, that's your time to prove what you've learned rather than do the learning itself. I think where match exposure does help is in adjusting mentality, which is where I think lower level loans can help more so than anything else, showing younger players that it's no longer just a game, it's people's livelihoods and that there can be great consequences to their actions on the pitch. You could ponce about for weeks on end in U23 games trying fancy flicks and tricks to no avail with little consequence but you do that in a few professional games, maybe cost your team a goal or two and who knows maybe you're out of team, your colleagues might lose out financially if you've cost them bonuses or your boss might even lose his job.

Nuno ended his loan so presumably had an idea of where he’d use him. Not much point in ending the loan unless he was simply a better option than an U23 player in case of further injuries. Surely with little to lose now is the time to assess him by giving him a run of games. If he doesn’t get that I’ll be surprised if he doesn’t leave permanently in the summer. It would be a shame to do so without giving him a run whether that be in a midfield two or more as a 10.
