Cardiff 2 - 0 Wolves: Piss Poor in the Pissing Rain Verdict Thread

No-one is saying "Batth is Bobby Moore", however he played every minute of 90 consecutive league games and largely speaking we looked pretty good and compact at the back, he isn't in the team now and we look a disaster. By definition he will improve things as he is better than any of the current options at CH and he definitely does organise better than bloody Stearman.

This. Batth is the commanding presence we miss when he's not there. Stearman lacks such presence but is a decent partner. Hause and Iorfa should be the cover and we need to improve in full back areas.

Just an Idea. When the club made the statement on the 19th of August, saying that Benik Afobe wasn't going anywhere, was it more of an indirect statement To Benik. If we had recieved bids from PL clubs, and he was hoping to get a lot bigger salary. Maybe it was a clever statement. It made all the fans happy and maybe it sent a clear message to Benik, too. You aren't going anywhere son.

It is just at the time many people were suprised by the directness of the club statement.

So if we have KM and Benik not happy with not being allowed to move on, maybe that would affect them and the other players.

I have no idea if this is so. It was just the nature of the club statement, that surpised a few on here.

Moxey is a shrewed man. He often makes statements that have different motives, to what is first thought.

Yep. I was in the "we can improve on Batth" camp but ignoring the evidence we've seen thus far would just be stupid. We clearly miss him.

Haven't read the entire thread but I won't be sad if we allow KMac to move on at this point. There was a level of disinterest in his shift reminiscent of our Saunders squad. It ripped apart the squad yesterday.
Henry seems to have been reeled in and is here for the good of the squad. Was hoping for the same with KMac but it doesn't look like improving.

Very harsh in my opinion Apart from yesterday KMac has been very good this season

There was something said that kmac was 'the heart and soul' of the dressing room. Problem is, if that's the case and his negativity is rubbing off, I'm not really sure what we could do about it other than sell him if we can't reach an agreement on his contract.

So far I've kept pretty quiet during the Dangerous Dave Debates. Whilst agreeing that he lacks technique I felt that was sufficiently balanced by the effort he puts in.

Seeing the replay of the Cardiff goal that was ruled offside, I've changed my mind. Yes, he tried to close their player who crossed the ball down. But after the ball has passed him he just stood there, with his hands by his side two or three yards behind our defence. If he wanted a rest, why didn't he get off the pitch. If he wanted a good view of the action, he should have bought a ticket in the stands.

I find it incredible for such an experienced player to make such a school boy error even if in this case it very luckily didn't lead to a goal.

And I totally disagree with you wholeheartedly. A striker has to be given stuff, McDonald pranced around like he couldn't care less, Coady tried but ultimately the same. The wingers might as well not bothered coming in. VLP offered very little and Ojo had a couple of crosses in and that was that.

When your central link player (Edwards) is not offering for a pass from McDonald it starts cutting off the passing options into the other forward positions strikers and wingers. Sometimes Coady and McDonald looked up for that forward passing option and it just wasn't there.

I think it's unfortunately a combination of both.

If we look at the way Man City have changed this season in order to progress we see they understand the near impossibility of playing with two strikers. To enable a quality service into Sergio Aguero and also to be able to feed the flank players consistently they involve David Silva as often as possible in advanced midfield positions.
Now if Wolves are to get the best out of Benik Afobe they have to find a player who can do some of that link play at Championship level.
