Chelsea 2-2 Wolves: Verdict Thread

Just read that Chiquinho is now joint first for us this season in assists. That can’t be right, surely?
Can't be, Raul and Pod have 3 each, Chiqi I think has 2.

Two assists might do it! Benzema has scored about as many goals as us this season!

Played really well for most of that. 10 shitty minutes after HT but otherwise probably the better team. Who knew you didn't need manic arm waving to react after conceding first, eh ;)

Chiquinho has to be getting more minutes. Pretty much always has an impact.

Saiss has been a great servant for us but I think that's his last game for us and it's probably right that he goes.

Chelsea were strange, spent most of the game just hoofing it into the channels. Defensively poor as well, we know we struggle for creativity but we should have scored 5 or 6 quite easily.

It halts the appalling run and even though he wasn't there, it'll buy Lage time. Some will think that's a good thing, others differently.

Hwang is still fucking rubbish.

We really must find a way to play four at the back sooner rather than later. It frees us up so much.
As always, in a summary nutshell this is a spot on post.
Only caveat is it thought Hwang played his part in the comeback, so I give him a bit of credit

The match turned on our inspired subs, for a change. Trincao and most significantly Chiquinho! We all know what a bundle of energy Chiquinho brings to the team but boy he was nuclear powered today. What a cross at the end. Both surely have to start against City. If it wasn't for two really bad mistakes, we win today. Feels like it anyway. Get in!
Nice😁

You are such a penis. Contribute nothing outside of matchday and then just trite shite on it
I said were were fantastic. You are just an offensive person but I doubt the moderators will say anything. I don’t contribute out of match day but so what - I just like watching Wolves - not over analysing everything.

At least they showed some heart today. In his interview Coady said he'd seen some of the stuff people have been saying, and they took it in.
Apart from a 20 min spell when they gave away 2 sloppy goals i thought they gave a good account of themselves. Trincao decided he was a decent player and Chiquinho played without fear assisting for both goals. Hopefully he features in the last 3 games.
Subs changed that game. TR said it was Bruno who changed it up from the training ground where he was watching. No reason not to believe him. Also today showed that the "bust up" maybe wasn't one..
Hopefully they play like that in the last three games. They have nothing to lose!

Best 90 minutes for a while (or at least 70 minutes). Chelsea had better players, but we matched them as a team. 1st half we should at least have tested Mendy more often but thoroughly deserved to be level at the break. A few minutes off the boil, typified by Coady hitting the ball at Moutinho for their 2nd goal. Didn't seem a penalty in real time, and debatable at the least on replay, but I can understand why it was given.
We played as a team and didn't drop our heads, though I felt the impetus for the comeback was not the substitutions but nervousness from Chelsea (maybe a chicken and egg situation). Whichever it was, we were able to dominate the last few minutes and may well have won with another 5 minutes.
Best game from Neto since his return, Raul played well, and the 2 of them can hopefully play out the season. Boly had a couple of poor touches but was a mountain when he needed to be. Chiquinho had his best few minutes - looking better in the 1st team than in the U-23s.
Not a great game for Saiss, sure to be something our next 3 opponents will seek to exploit.

The ball in for the 2nd is excellent. It's put in so quickly and with pace so it's difficult for opposing teams to mark the attackers. Huge difference between being quick and doing things quickly.

Great to see Neto back properly too, I get the cries for taking him off when losing but got to think of the long term goals for him, no good risking him if his recovery plan stated 70 mins max today.

That move for the second is exactly the way the wingbacks should've been used for ages. Ball out wide in front of them where they can run on to it and deliver early with plenty of bodies in the box. Chiquinho didn't have to worry about trying to beat his man or pick out anyone in particular, time and space to just whip it into an area and let people attack it.

Problem is that our wing backs play more like full backs. Only Jonny really does it properly (Doc used to but that's another point).

They don't get the service to make that play.

If they get a early ball out to them in space then they're usually closer to the half way line that the opposition box. If the get it higher up the pitch it's usually as a result of prolonged, slow build up which means they don't have the space to fire a quick ball across the box.

The wingbacks are expected to do too much most of the time, perform more like what you'd expect an old school winger to do in beating a man at the byline to create space to cross. Compare that to Chelsea playing 343 and Alonso/James get endless opportunities to run onto a pass and deliver like Chiquinho did yesterday.

Thoroughly deserved last minute equaliser that showed the squad is still together.
If you can’t see that we played quite well yesterday even before the formation change i’m afraid it’s just an agenda. We were by no means fantastic but we were set up well, Neto caused them lots of problems and Saiss and Donk both really should have opened the scoring.

Obviously Chelsea had the 2 disallowed goals but they were rightly chalked off and we should have gone in at half time 1 up at least. Chelsea came out with more purpose in the second half but not sure they would have scored without VAR. Foul on Saiss first and then very questionable if it was a foul and definitely not clear and obvious. The second goal is a great finish but shocking from Coady.

The subs then changed the game, both Hwang and Chiquinho gave us more legs and options going forward and the former should have got us back in it but the final sub was the key one. Trincao had an instant impact and possibly should have scored again. The equaliser is a fantastic ball in and i think we’ve got a player in Chiquinho, he’s not ready to play regularly yet but he needs minutes and it looks like he’s the best crosser of the ball we’ve had for a while. Great movement from Coady and the away end was pandemonium, yes only a point but a very good comeback.

Would think that’s the last we’ve seen of Saiss, been fantastic for us but Toti needs to come in now or we go to a 4 anyway. We were chasing the game so don’t think a back 4 is the magic answer but it did show a blueprint for what we could do with reinforcements. Raul still is nowhere near right, he was better but hardly caused them any issues at all and i think you definitely have to question if he will ever get “it” back.

After the last 3 games we needed to restore some pride and the players did that. Even at 2-0 down I thought we had played quite well and VAR and poor finishing was going to cost us but the lads never stopped. Still think we’ve been better than a lot of the recent comments on here and still can’t get with all the negativity despite seeing that it’s obvious some things need to change.

Don’t expect anything on Wednesday but who knows, we’ve done it before and we are definitely capable.

Didn't see the game, only followed on here/BBC, then watched motd.
It seemed to me we played quite well first half against the 3rd best team in the country, not much possession but probably had the best chances.
Second half were holding on a bit? The penalty shook us. I think it probably was a foul by Saiss, just, but erm surely it was a more blatant foul on Saiss seconds before? Second due to panic.
The comeback was sensational, 2 excellent goals, if only Trincao could have score a couple like that at start of the season, maybe his future at Wolves would be different.
Players like Chiquinho are always exciting to watch, good early cross and helpfully think we 4 or 5 in the box.
