Coronavirus

Churchill sent a quarter of a million young men to their deaths. There were probably alternative courses of action which would have resulted in massively fewer deaths. But he stuck to his convictions that that was what needed to be done and he took the public with him. I don't really know the pros and cons of whether what we did in WW2 was justifiable, I'm just bringing it up as an example of political leadership.

For 150 years scientists thought Mercury was the perfect medicine for Syphilis. I don't really know the pros and cons of whether heavy metal poisoning was justifiable, I'm just bringing it up as an example of scientific leadership. You cannot just throw statements out like that !

That debate will never happen, partly because our government are cowards and partly because an abstract concept of some deaths is always fine right up to the point where it’s your mum or dad.
This is true and yes is a bit shit.

But I like to try and keep emotional considerations out of my opinion on Covid and try to “follow the science”. Median and mean deaths are around 83. When my grandmother died of respiratory failure secondary to pneumonia at 85 there wasn’t really anyone to blame. She’d had COPD for as long as I can remember due to smoking in her youth, but her hospitilisation came out of the blue and she didn’t come back out. Just one of the statistics of winter deaths. Vulnerable, old people die of respiratory infections, you can’t stop it (unless you lock everyone away, but that’s existing not living).

Some people are going to die before their time, but that is true of any disease. We have a vaccine to try and mitigate this. There isn’t a great deal more than that we can do

I don't think that's comparable really, it's scientifically proven now that it definitely isn't a perfect medicine isn't it.

You'll never be able to scientifically prove whether the loss of live in WW2 was justified or not, it's a moral question and the answer depends on the person answering. My point was I don't know enough historically to answer the question myself. I think it was based on what I've read but I've not researched it enough to give my definite answer.

Essentially we are gambling on Johnson
The southern states are doing well but I’m not wholey convinced by Sleepy Joe at all.
I genuinely worry about where you get your information from James

Rumoured that Javid wants to stop reporting the stats
I said it somewhere else but the Netherlands just did what England are about to do.
And... they've just entered their third lockdown.
Way to go Boris, you stupid, myopic, deaf cunt.

Youngest son and partner both positive for C19. They were both at the Euro final at Wembley.

Sincerely hope they are Ok
Thanks Paul. They seem to be ok. My main concern is that they have been in contact with my wife before C19 was confirmed. I am currently working in Jersey.

What made them get tested, symptoms, pinged?.....sorry about the 20 questions, just interested

I have no choice unless I say I have anxiety etc and see a doctor. Your work meant to still?
