Dull as ditchwater FC

That's fair, but it's still frustrating to watch Neto or Raul (or Podence, though I see it less from him so far) pick up the ball in an isolated spot, and then carry it into an even more isolated position. And if that's what Nuno is trying to adjust, I can't say I've seen much evidence that we're taking it to heart.

Time will tell, of course.

At the start of our Premier League adventure, I always thought Raul's hold up play was one of his main attributes, seems to have lost that a bit since lockdown

It’s always been an issue for us in the PL. Always tried to score the perfect counter attacking goal with quick flicks etc rather than holding it, slowing the tempo and getting men up the field to work a chance.
Looking at YWs clips it shows that in that first 10 mins we were getting men forward, Neto and Podence were playing narrow, but this just petered out.

Yep - the difference between the first 10 minutes and the rest of the game was clear to see. But was that us 'petering out' or was it Newcastle working out what their formation was supposed to be? I don't know.
One thing I would like is an indication of where Nuno wants to get to. Is it a team like Atalanta? Again, I have no idea.

Not sure how you would ever get an indication of that as he's never going to come out and say anything like that.

Whatever we are trying to transition to is going to take a lot longer than some think. If we are going a lot more possession based then we are miles off the end goal. Fulham are comfortably the worst side in the league and they had more possession than us, it's going to take a fair few tweaks to personnel and system yet I think.

I would take awful football in return on winning. As they say there are no pictures on a scorecard

I think I could just about cope with horrible football if we're winning regularly but I'm greedy now, want good football and success........entitled aye I?

And that's all that matters.

So after seeing a back four for the first time last night, what do we think is our best team and shape for the future "style" that Nuno wants to play?

--------- Boly ------- Coady ------- Kilman --------

Semedo ----- Donk ---- Neves ------ Ait-Nouri

The reason I've gone with Joao in the second one is there's less need for Donk to support the forwards with an extra man in front of him.

We're not doing very well at chance creation so far this season. Only WBA create poorer chances than us.

Based on the above its probably no shock that we currently have the 4th worst xg in the league. Only Sheffield United, West Brom and Burnley's is worse.

This graphic does show that our eyes are not deceiving us and that we are creatively lacking at the moment. We thought it and this proves it. I hope that this window we look to improve on creating and taking chances.

Ah, happy days, the Forum is back. Hasn't worked on my laptop for about a month. I've had to read the Mix. That's a grim wee chart isn't it? And with Podence out for a few games suggests that we need some new bodies in PDQ
