Discussed with Trips at the weekend and we couldn't quite find consensus.

So this is what you want, not what you think will happen.

We're assuming everyone is fit.

23 man squad obviously.

GK (3): D Henderson, Pope, Pickford (that's my order too)

DF: (8) : Alexander-Arnold, Trippier, Bertrand, Chilwell, Maguire, Gomez, Smalling, Holgate

MF (7) : J Henderson, Dier, Rice, Maddison, Barkley, Alli, Oxlade-Chamberlain

FW (5): Kane, Sterling, Sancho, Rashford, Vardy*

*Calvert-Lewin if Vardy says no

You forgot Tyrone "Bobby Moore" Mings

Wouldn't have him even five down from those choices, he is shit.

DF: (8) : Alexander-Arnold, Wan Bissaka, Chilwell, Maguire, Gomez, Coady, Stones, Shaw

MF (8) : J Henderson, Dier, Winks, Maddison, Barkley, Alli, Oxlade-Chamberlain, Grealish

I can't have Winks, sorry. Such a nothing player. No pace, no passing range, no creativity, can't tackle...he's just a body. Tom Davies with less energy.

Where would Coads play?

Coady is there for when the manager realises that sometimes a plan b might be an option and goes to 3/5 at the back?

You're never going to be 1-0 down and play an extra defender.

Winks looked good in his last few England performances. I think you admitted that, even if you are not normally a fan.

Pope

Coady in the middle of a back 3.

TAA and Chilwell wing backs.

Henderson and the ox in the middle.

Sancho Kane Sterling

I think he did well in one game. I just don't see what he brings, he's too slow and not good enough to make up for that.

Simon Osborn without the charm and part of the ability.

I mean from the start of a match. There will be times where it will be obvious that 4-3-3 (or whatever he plays) won't work from the start and so does something different...

I know, never happening but it could and should

England don't have good enough central defenders to play a flat 4 at the back but they will, and they'll be eliminated by the first decent opponents they face again.

Is Winks any good at hide and seek?

Agree totally.

We should go 3-4-3

Was a very interesting conversation with DW about this, especially with the defenders. I would go with the following

GK (3) - Pope, Henderson, Pickford

DEF (8) - Alexander-Arnold, Wan-Bissaka, Chilwell, Shaw, Maguire, Gomez, Stones, Smalling

MID (7) - Henderson, Rice, Dier, Alli, Maddison, Grealish, Oxlade-Chamberlain

FOR (5) - Kane, Rashford, Sterling, Sancho, Vardy/Calvert-Lewin (dependant on getting Vardy back in the fold)

This won't be the squad that goes to the Euros, Mings will inexplicably find a place in the squad and will probably get game time. Winks will also go, and so will Abraham I'd imagine.

We've got to be taking Mason Mount, surely?

We seem to picking these as our CDs for the tournament:

Maguire, Gomez, Stones, Smalling

Any 2 of these are not good enough to win an international tournament. We haven't looked tight at the back since the world cup when we played a back 3 - its our only choice.

Our lack of quality centre back options really is a worry. Not too long ago we had Rio, Terry, Campbell, King, Carragher (sure I've missed someone too) as options at the back, really short now.

Gomez - Stones/Coady - Maguire would be fine, would also get the best out of the available FBs/WBs. Southgate seems to have his heart set on 4-3-3 our CBs (and CMs too) are just not good enough for that.

I'd be very happy with:

D Henderson
Gomez - Stones / Coady - Maguire
TAA - J Henderson - Ox - Chillwell
Sancho - Kane - Sterling
