England: Euro 2020 squad

Sterling needs to find some form, he's been pretty poor for a long time now.

Dier has no business anywhere near this snd Rice should be left behind too, but that won't be happening.

Gomez - Stones/Coady - Maguire would be fine, would also get the best out of the available FBs/WBs. Southgate seems to have his heart set on 4-3-3 our CBs (and CMs too) are just not good enough for that.

I'd be very happy with:

D Henderson
Gomez - Stones / Coady - Maguire
TAA - J Henderson - Ox - Chillwell
Sancho - Kane - Sterling

That should be the team. It won't but it seems to be the best available.

Pope
Gomez - Coady -Maguire
TAA - Henderson- Mount- Ox - Chillwell
Kane - Sterling
352 allows Mount and Ox to break out to support and Kane to link. Its also better defensively. Coady could ping the ball from the back all day with the pace in midfield and up front. It also allows Sancho impact from the bench , Stones as cover CB.
You probably shouldnt throw Coady in now at this late stage after he has played over 100 games in 2 years for his club and none for England. He is the best available in that position though. Henderson is in the form of his life. Pope is the better more commanding keeper. Pickford is so far behind those two his continued selection is myopic to say the least.

I dont get the love for Mason Mount, as much as I hate Grealish hes a much better option.

Coady wont be going either

wasnt that the point of the thread? We all kow what Gareth will do , but this is the alternative that is probably better.

Grealish is an arrogant little prick who shines brightly in an average side. Mount shines brightly in a top 5 a. Thats why Mount gets my vote.

Is Mount shining though? Personally think he has been pretty average, with the odd good performance thrown in

Our fullbacks that will play (TAA and Chilwell) won't be good enough defensively when we come up against decent opposition, both are great going forward, but neither are solid defensively. A back 3/5 would be a much better option in my opinion, but it won't happen!

Our lack of quality centre back options really is a worry. Not too long ago we had Rio, Terry, Campbell, King, Carragher (sure I've missed someone too) as options at the back, really short now.

Woodgate

Leicester fan I work with just put up his first choice starting XI on our WhatsApp group.

Pickford
Maguire
Tarkowski
Mings
Trippier
Sancho
Ward prowse
Alli
Mount
Kane
Wilson

I mean, where the fuck do you start with that?!!

Is that Callum Wilson up front with Kane?

Cant quite work out the formation either, is it Sancho at RWB and Trippier on the left?

No Idea what the formation was. I forgot to ask while I slating it.

90s Wolves: This is the most powderpuff midfield in the world

That team: Hold my beer

Lol. One of my first comments was that midfield would be over-run after 5 mins.

Ward-Prowse is fucking gash, he'd be useful if you had special teams like in the NFL and you could just bring him on for set pieces. Otherwise an absolute Edwards of a midfielder.

In fact if you could do that I'd still pick Becks :D

JWP is a good asset in PTG. That's where he should stay

Mings was nicely reverting to type for Villa before the break. How he continues to be fancied defies logic.

Mings is a slightly better Stearman, he is always and I mean always a yard or two out of position. Make all the hero blocks you like mate, in the end you'll concede and have to do your pashun thumping of the ground while you're sat on your arse.

Still love that 30 seconds of action in our game earlier in the season. Thinks he's been really clever by hacking down Adama (was a terrible foul too, could have been a red). Smirking away to his teamates. Joao to Ruben, 1-0. Enjoy that you big twat.

Our “experienced” midfield options are shit anyway. Henderson is fucking awful, Ox is perma crocked, winks is just nothing, Barkley achieved nothing for years, Ali had a hot streak and has done nothing since and Dier is a dm who can’t pass forward.

Personally, I’d be going with the young prospects, get them the experience of this kind of competition.

Foden and Rice as starters, Maddison and mount in the squad.

I’d also be taking Reece James as the back up to TAA, Gomez, Abraham and Sancho in their first big tournaments.

We won’t win it anyway, so let’s build on the quality coming through that won their age group competitions so we’re actual contenders in the future.

Is there a new CM called Rice? You clearly couldn’t mean Declan.
