I'm sure the Porto president wouldn't exaggerate things to make himself look good.
This is the issue. I'm not saying you are right, I'm not saying you are wrong, but the desire to be right over this transfer kills any meaningful discussion. Ultimately we have to see where we are at in a couple of years. My original comment last night was we are a poorer team this season without Jota and with Silva, I find that difficult to dispute

What do you think of the 3rd tweet? Even if it's correct, it doesn't follow that we could have bought him for that price.

"Remarkable claim by Porto president tonight. He said Fabío Silva had €10m clause but Wolves paid €40m. Good business for Porto and good business for you know who."

If we play 3-5-2 then I agree with you.

If we play 3-4-3 then Silva doesn't come into it and I disagree with you.

It's not about being right. I just wouldn't take the word of someone who's clearly got a huge vested interest in the deal.

The Jota/Silva thing's a separate issue. I agree with you on that...for now.

We are already playing a twisted version of 352. I'll openly admit it's not the version I'd play, but there we are. Jota is better in a 352, but even if we went back to a pure 343, he'd still be a better option than Silva even as the 4th choice wide option. He's about to get a run of games as the left forward at Liverpool, not suggesting they play the way we do, but he's hardly Michael Gilkes in that position on the left

Adama is going to start a lot of games (he'll have to if we want to keep him...and we [as in the club] emphatically do)...which means we've already got Podence/Neto scrapping for one spot a lot of the time. Jota being third in that battle wasn't going to end well, for all his non-Gilkesness.

He's never going to be a proper option through the middle as the striker in that formation.

You have to look at what Fabio has been given so far:

- A League Cup game where we played at 60% pace and got done for it in the end. He definitely should have scored. Played ok though.
- 20 minutes chasing the game vs Man City
- 15 minutes where we just wanted to get off the park vs West Ham

That is literally it! Can't see how anyone can make any judgements yet being as he isn't obviously the slowest man in the world (Rob Hindmarch, Robert Taylor), comically shit (Mo Camara) or doesn't know where the pitch ends (Jeremy Hélan).

Oh and for the record, had it been an option, then of the five forwards we owned in July 2020 then I would absolutely have cashed in on Adama ahead of anyone else. As I don't think the hype will ever be bigger around him than it was then, as he just won't deliver enough going forward.

But you can only sell what someone else will buy.

It is a shame, good bloke, good footballer. Just stuck in that kind of Dwight Gayle zone. From our point of view it's good that Nuno realised that early and took action. Ruthless, but you do what you have to.

31 now too so it's probably never going to happen for him.

Being in or around the top end of the Championship for the last few years, probably earning £1/2m plus each year is a significant step up from where his career looked to be going when he was at Queens Park, Dundee United and Lech Poznan. I don't feel too sorry for him.

Much rather be him than a waster like Enobakhare

He used to drink in the Emerald Club on the Cannock Road. Seemed alright. Nothing big time about him.

Just spotted that Dicko got a move in the end. Joined Gaziantep (Turkish top flight), looks like he's gone straight into the team too. Will be up against Afobe at some point later in the season.
