Favourite Wolves game(s)

Wolves 6-4 Rotherham (my twins first match, the jammy gits)

Wolves 1-1 Wednesday 95. Won on pens, always hated Waddle so that was particularly good

Wolves 2-0 Villa 2017. Knew we were going to win the league then and just an amazing atmosphere

Wolves 2-1 Utd FA Cup

Burnley 0-1 Wolves 1994. Awesome away day, thought we were going to walk the league :(

Wolves 1 Leicester 0, that goal, my personal favourite, and from that day on you don't ever bad mouth David Kelly ( I think that was just after the abandoned Ireland England game at which he scored as well.
9 year old me bugging my dad to go to the toilet him telling me to hold it to HT, finally gives in and we're in the bogs of the family enclosure with a couple of other impatient dads when the roar goes up 🤦‍♂️I dodnt live that one down for years, especially when it turned out we'd missed a bloody good goal too.

Hard to to think without looking at fixtures on Wikipedia (which I haven’t done). So can only go with recent ones really off the top of my head in no particular order:

Utd FA cup QF. Ridiculous moment really, atmosphere was something else, the NB were even standing!

Bristol City (A) Nuno first season. Still get goosebumps now re-watching the Bennett header, and I’m on TV for that!

Man City 3-2 (H). Hostility, atmosphere, comeback.

Saints (A) 2-3, Villa this week, West Ham first season. None great games, first two terrible, but late winners you can’t beat. Makes me remember Spurs at Wembley!

Bristol 1-4 under Stale was a great day and result.

Sorry I’ve gone a bit crazy there and broke the rules but there’s so many great moments following football and that’s before I think of the KJ and MM era’s or even Leicester and United under DJ

Wolves 1 QPR 0 -2009 an absolute stinker of a game but Ebanks-Blake got us over the line to the Premier League.

Wolves 3 Man City 2 - 2019… a cracking comeback & another reminder of how good we could be.

Wolves 4 Leeds 3 - 2015. Great game & dangerous Dave gave his shirt to my lil bro to which means a lot to us personally.

Five games out of the hundreds I’ve seen since 1967, you’ll have to give me a couple of days to think about this.

Some great games mentioned already. I was lucky enough to be at all of the following:

Wolves 5-1 Forest. We were superb that day. Kites & Jarvis ran them ragged.

Wolves 6-4 Rotherham.

The Wolves 1-0 QPR win to secure promotion. Match was shocking but those celebrations were unrivalled at the time - my dad ended up three rows in front of our seats when the goal went in!

Sheff Wed cup game when they were an established Div 1/Premier side and we were underdogs. *That* David Kelly header/Don Goodman cross.

I wasn’t at this one, but our win v Man City in the PL at the Etihad when Adama scored two. It was the last game I ever got to watch with my dad, who passed away a day later after a long battle with cancer.

My dad bought me in to the Wolves family and I am grateful for that. Now I hope my own son follows in our footsteps (he’s only 2 so I’m not forcing it just yet!)

This game will always be special to me.

There will be more - I need to give it some thought.

That Forest game Squeeze won directors box passes so I gave my ST to a very old MM poster called LIQ. Looked at my old seat in the South Bank (back then) and sat down. Next to Stuart Pearce.

Force it. I have got 4 out of five kids / step kids as Wolves fans with one Liverpool black sheep. 80% hit rate isn’t too shabby. Got a grandson to work on next…

Wolves vs Sheff Utd 3 - 0 Playoff Final
Wolves vs Leicester 4 - 3 03/04
Wolves vs Espanyol 4 - 0 Europa league
Wolves vs United 1 - 0 03/04
Wolves vs QPR 1 - 0 08/09

I had a season ticket 2002 - 2010, since then been to a few games a season. There will be loads I've missed as my memory is crap.

The 5 - 1 against Forest in 08/09 would most likely have made the cut, I was at a family wedding at the time.

Another one that springs to mind, the 3 - 1 win against Burton at home. In part because of the weather and the game was such a mismatch between the sides.

Watford h) 2-0 93 - first game, just got told that Bully was the number 9 and to watch him. He scored obviously.
Portsmouth a) 3-2 2000 - as a 13 year old surrounded by Pompey supporting mates fair to say this fixture was a biggie for me. Late come from behind win in torrential rain in the open end. Heaven
Man United h) 2-1 2011 - possibly the only time I’ve seen us beat a sky 6 team. Late Saturday game, great atmosphere, surprising win (they were unbeaten I think and it was January).
Brentford a) 2-1 2017 - this is linked to non football reasons although in its own right was pretty important, at 1-0 down in the second half I thought we were heading for league one again.
Espanyol h) 4-0 2020 - I’d been to a couple of the earlier EL games but never thought I’d see us playing in the knock out stages of a European game. Still feels surreal now. Plus Ruben’s goal is the best I’ve seen live by a Wolves player.

Solely going with matches I was at so only got 3 so far

Bristol City on New Years eve for Bennetts winner - absolutely mental, though I'm not in shot as the camera didn't pan far enough to the right. Even the 3 mile walk back to Temple Meads didn't dampen the mood for myself or Andy despite getting lost in the back streets of Bristol twice.

Wolves 4 - Leicester 3 (the most recent one) - Jota hatrick and Nuno running onto the pitch to celebrate with them.

FA Cup match 2 - 1 v MU

Have to give more thought to the other 2

Other great games not at but saw or heard - principal one was the Play Off Final v Seffield. Had been banished to the garage & listened on the radio whilst sitting in my sons half rebuilt Mini as wife of the time had friends round & didn't want me polluting the atmosphere in the house with swearing or shouting depending on how things were going.

Anyone old enough to remember, Wolves 7 Chelsea 1 ? Yes it was about March 75, Willie Carrs home debut. And the Man of the Match...... Chelsea goalkeeper John Phillips. Yes we were absolutely awesome that day.

Reading the Europa game comments then the home win 2 - 1 v Torino which put us into the group stages for the first time for almost 40 years gets in there.

Should have read the thread properly…five you say

The 1-0 against Plymouth was a terrible game but it changed my life, I got my first season ticket the following week.

Wolves Leicester FA Cup…the David Kelly goal, the day my god daughter was born.

Mick’s last game…the Albion. Scattered my mate’s dad’s ashes in the centre circle while the ref was doing the coin toss.

The Southampton 6-0 - spent pre match having a tour of the stadium with Rachel Heyhoe-Flint…such a nice lady.

Play off final…

Great thread. So the following are a bit random but have personal resonance and I’ve gone for ones I was at:

Newcastle vs Wolves 1-4 1990. If you grew up in the north east as a Wolves fan in the 80s it didn’t get much better than this.

Sheffield Utd vs Wolves 2-3 1997. First Wolves match with my future wife. Friday night I think. Romantic. At one point in this game Don Goodman headed a ball further than I can kick it.

Wolves vs Derby 3-0 2008. 11 years later and now attending with the entire Derby supporting family of my future wife (yep, was a bit of a long runner)… felt like peak McCarthy era Wolves, we won so easily.

Wolves vs Leeds 4-1 2017. Wolves utterly dominant. Could have picked a few from this period, but under the lights always a winner. Blimey we were good in that first half.

Wolves vs Espanyol 4-0 2020. Watching Wolves in Europe with my own young family - never imagined the like back in the 80s, what a journey.

Seems like I like the home games under lights on reflection. Fck, I love going to the Wolves 🙂
