General Wolves News

What a day out that was.

VAR would spend 5 mins checking to see if Cav handballed in the build-up to the first goal nowadays and another 5 mins see if Costa was tripped by Friend or dived.

Traore looked to feature more central apart from being knobbled by Doc.

Great to see Nuno celebrating like that.

Yeah, fantastic day out. I miss Neves hitting the target and making the keeper work with his shots

Full Time was a superb feeling, knowing that that was probably it and we were going up

That non-decision on Friend/Costa by Attwell was appalling. As well as Neves getting a phantom first booking.

I remember watching that second half with 9 a few days later and we were as comfortable as you can be with 9 men watching it in the cold light of day. Mostly speculatuve shots that required blocking, their tactic was get it to Traore and let him do something. Downing had acres of space all second half and they never once tried to stretch us and bring him in to play.

In the space of 7 days Nuno managed to enrage Warnock and Pulis. Thats when I knew it was true love.

Neves was booked for trying to cynically bring down Traore making no effort to win the ball. He failed and then I think Doc brought him down instead in similar fashion.

Now common sense says booking them both was the right decision, but I think the rules state they can’t both get booked. Unless he was booked for dissent of course but we will never know.

The games that matter to Canada are against the two CONCACAF powerhouses, Mexico and the USA. Playing Bermuda or the Cayman Islands is like England playing San Marino. Pretty meaningless, except when they are world Cup qualifiers.
I think its unfair for european teams, much harder to actually qualify for the WC than concacaf and asia

Yeah, the farce is CONCACAF having as many places as it does (it's absolutely piss weak as a confederation) and New Zealand effectively now getting a bye to a playoff every single time given that Australia have done one.

Oh and going to 48 teams from 2026, utter nonsense.

It's your own lookout if you don't qualify as a UEFA nation. It isn't that hard. England haven't lost a World Cup qualifier since 2009 and that was a dead rubber, we were already through. We haven't lost one at home since September 2000.

Thats England yeah, and you have an easier group as usual, we never gets an easy draw..only the winner of the groups directly qualifies(yes, im slightly bitter Spain scored that goal away to Georgia in the 92nd minute and didnt deserve it either, goalie should have saved it)..some teams that finishes second get a play off that isnt easy either..

England has one of the best teams in the world now according to me, i will give you that

We get an easy draw because we always win the group. It's self-perpetuating, but if you're not basing seedings etc on past results then what are you basing them on? As I say, we haven't lost a qualifier at home for over 20 years. Of course we're going to be seeded top.

It's not luck that we have to play the teams we have in front of us. Plus it's easy enough for teams to slip up against mid-ranking nations, we just tend not to.

I say bollocks to the regional qualification, just get the best teams to the finals. If most of them are from Europe, then so be it. Having some hopeless minnows in when decent teams miss out is a joke.
Obviously region free qualifiers would be impractical, but that's how it should be.
And while we're at it, knock the Euros back to 16 teams and have it be a decent competition.

Bennett body checked him.

Think Doc's first was for "dissent", Neves first was for the kind of shit that pisses us off likr you say. Coady shooed them both away from Attwell but think he'd remembered he was in possession of a whistle by that point.

I'm not sure you are missing out on much. There are 24 teams at the Euros so 11 more than the World Cup. Is the WC missing out by not having Hungary, Slovakia, Poland, Scotland, Czech Rep, North Macedonia, Finland, Wales and Turkey and replacing them with a few extra Asian and African sides?
