Half-term report

Well done Owen for missing more or less an open goal from four yards out

He looks alright but he is not the silver bullet here. Plus he's not even available right now.

No giving him points for fulfilling his potential and almost heading the winner v Brighton
So you get marked up for missing absolute sitters? Makes sense. I'm sure he'd be disappointed if he's already fulfilled his potential after one start and a couple of sub appearances.

It's the way he attacks, he's better when he has more space in front of him and starting from deeper. We used to park Doc miles up the pitch more or less permanently unless we were playing City/Liverpool. That isn't Semedo's game. He's better running with the ball from his own half, at most from halfway or so and then linking from there. If you place him 10 yards away from Adama then nothing will ever happen.

Whereas Doc can't run with the ball any more than a standard League Two clogger, but he was alright at winning the ball aerially high up the park and playing from that position.
He also drove inside superbly well and did have a good touch and decent technique striking at goal (the Man City goal is a superb finish).

This meant Adama could go wide and try to cross for Doc and Raul.

Semedo purely goes outside and from deep as you say. RAN does the same on the left.

No he gets marked up for having the instinct to be there, chasing a winner, running beyond the forwards from midfield in the 95th minute.
He’s allows Neves to find space

I meant how we used to play. We can see Doc in a back four now. It's not pretty.
But here's the truth. We've gone from a team who every team in the premier didn't want to play, to one that every team in the premier knows how to beat. That is disturbing for me. I think we miss Raul for more than just his presence in the box. He would chase the back four all match. That helped the midfield. We miss Jonny's solidness at the back, that helped the defence. Neto is as good(if not better) than Jota. But the rest of the team members is as we had them. Yes, we have had injuries, but today not so much.
Replying to my own post, but another thing Raul did that we've all missed. On corners especially he would be one of the players who could mark and head the ball way. Fabio doesn't even come close in that respect. So instead of 2 tall defenders we had 3 in the box. It's those little margins that make the difference, particularly when we are looking for reasons.

Dendoncker only got 5 for doing the same?

I’d say Coady’s form will need to improve soon otherwise he’ll be playing his way out of the Euros.

Otasowie has added something every time he has played. Donk has failed to convert about 10 decent chances so far this season. So yes he is a five. Once again, I bother to type some decent analysis and some of you are nitpicking about One player.
Do you think Otasowie has not done well when he has come on? If so you’re watching a different game to us. Has moutinho done much since November? No
Manager of the month curse really bit this time didn’t it 😂

that’s just to piss you all off btw 😘😘

I think his impact has been massively overrated, yes.

He made a couple of good tackles in one sub appearance, played some steady safe passes in another and then had his anonymous performance as a false nine at Burnley. That last one definitely goes against your 'added something every time' claim.

And even with just the one missed sitter to his name, I'd guess in minutes:misses he's not a million miles off Dendoncker.

That’s fair enough. A balanced counter view.

Fair play Cyber I needed a laugh.

Your 'decent' analysis has certainly given me that.

Truly hilarious.

There are a couple of scores I don't agree with. But overall he is about right and for me those players have dropped in standard from last season. The jury is still out on Fabio Silva and Samedo , but they have not performed as many of us hoped , so far.

If you’d said to us an hour before the first game of the season that we’d be 14th on 22 points and lost home games to Villa and Albion by half way we’d all be very disappointed and be asking why.
Does Raul being out mean we’ve got less points than we could have had? It’s very hypothetical but if you put Raul on the end of the chances that Fabio had v spurs and Otasowie had v BHA pretty sure we’d be 4 points better off.
Trying to evolve the way we play should have been shelved for a later date, far to short a turnaround in seasons to try it plus were things really going far south under the way we played after lockdown?

The fact is if we achieve the same points haul in the second half of the season as we did in the first we’d all be fairly happy with that considering our current form.
Out of 10 I’d give us 5.

In what way is the jury still out on Semedo? Just peoples opinions ? I am more impressed with each game and thought he was one of the few bright points from today

He hasn't scored. He hasn't got an assist , he has been caught out of position and failed to stop crosses, he just doesn't look a 30m right back or RWB. Marcal only cost 2m and looks at least as good, when available.

He does have an assist :)

I agree with Paul. He's looking better all the time to me. Unfortunate not to have scored by now. Don't think he'll ever be good at heading mind you.

Oh so the jury's out on his value for money then, Ok
