If we had top four aspirations...

Remember, it's only Nuno and the players we like that get cut slack due to lockdown/no crowds/no Raul.

Also, stats don't matter when discussing Semedo and Doc, but they're the most important thing on the rare occasions we discuss Adama
Thats what I was trying to say, bare stats don't tell the whole story.
As for your 'dig', I don't think the players you mention get a free ride at all, Raul before his injury, Nuno, Semedo plus every other player have been criticised where appropriate....if anything this forum is quite balanced in its evaluation of players.

Adama has never been a goalscorer and never will be, at his best he creates chaos and assists. Yes you'd have expected him to still score a couple by now, and he's undoubtedly been poor this season, but who else has missed Raul as much as he has in our fragile and one-dimensional set-up?

Who else is he supposed to be assisting? Willian who never gets in the positions, or Fabio who currently can't put them away?
I don't think it's unreasonable to expect him to score more goals. Players improve and get better at things throughout their careers. It's something he should be looking to add to his game, without doubt.

Agree that his teammates should share the responsibility for his lack of assists.

I don't particularly disagree with you, but, for instance, Moutinho still rarely scores and has ten years on Adama. Scoring goals at this level isn't something I think you can just 'get better at' easily, like you can, say, improve your fitness.

The way we set up we'd be asking Adama to basically take on four or five players and then get into the area and then beat some more and score. You're talking world class expectations there. Especially for someone regularly derided as 'brainless'

There are other ways we could set up that could make goalscoring opportunities for him more likely, but that decision rests on Nuno rather than you, me or Adama.

His place in this set up (for me) is about assists and freeing up other players, he can certainly be criticised rightly for those failings this season.

Interesting stats. You can see how bad Adama has been this season apart from dribbling stats which in itself are useless if nothing is created.

Podence and Neto are similar which surprised me as I thought Neto would be streets ahead of both players (mainly judged on the per90 stats).

I do think Podence is better than the press he gets on here. God forbid I might consider starting him as a ten behind Raul and Neto next season !

The figure for Podence and aerial battles is worrying :)
