January 2022 Transfer Thread

Good enough to have played +370 games in the French and Italian top divisions, and 19 Champions League games.

Just realised, with mosquera being injured long term, when AFCoN starts and Boly and saiss disappear we will be left with Coady and kilman. Dendonker to fill in obv but centre half is a MUST

Do we know when they'll have to join up with their squads for that? (Sorry if it's been covered been busy)

It starts on the 9th and is in Cameroon (I think) which is currently an Amber country but not sure on isolation rules tbh. Likely change once winter flu hits etc

Wouldn't have minded him here, but I guess it has been a long time since I was able to watch him play (not since his days in France). No idea what kind of wages he's on, either.

Absolutely no idea how reliable this is, but we've been linked with Brazilian left back Guilherme Arana, currently at Atletico Mineiro.

Know absolutely fuck all about him except that he's highly rated and has featured for Brazil's youth teams.

I saw that yesterday on the wolves live fb site... don't think they've ever been right.

The source is some Spanish publication I've never heard of. Not sure how they'd know, but it seems a pretty wild name to pull out of a hat if there's no smoke at all. Not a player we've previously been lazily linked to IIRC.

We already have three left backs, plus Bueno who they rate when he's actually fit.

File under N for Nonsense.

Well with how reticent Lage has been to play RAN it makes me wonder if he rates him at all.

Like most rumors it will probably come to nothing.

You don't buy a good quality English player in their prime + a very captain/leader for 20 million.
I would be very disappointed if we accepted that.
I know Coady has his weaknesses but overall I think he's an excellent player.

I'm not sure he's worth much more than that, plays well in a specific style but ultimately isn't a very good defender.

If doing this deal meant we signed someone like Botman I'd do it.

The obvious caveat around losing players to ACON also being a factor.

If Lage intends to eventually move to a back four I would take a bid of £20m for Coady, though given Newcastle ‘s financial situation I’d try and add a healthy bit for a January transfer. I love him to bits but no point keeping a player not suited to the way we’re hoping to play however good that player’s leadership is. If he goes others will step up.

I'd be happy to let Coady go AFTER signing at least 1 and probably 2 centre halves in January. I think most of us want to play 4 at the back, but is there 1 player you'd be sure could handle it? I can think of a reason to doubt every one of them from recent injury record, to switching off, to never actually played there.

If we handled the negotiation correctly we'd get more than £20m, not because he's worth it but because it's Newcastle and they'll pay what they have to

I've no issue with selling Coady but 20 seems far too cheap imo, it would have to be to finance an upgrade and I don't think that's enough. Coady gets pelters for not being a very good defender which I think is harsh
