January 2022 Transfer Thread

Bold prediction- we'll waste the whole window fucking about with players who are totally uninterested in coming, and who we'll refuse to pay value for.

Again.

I’m not sure I’d call that prediction bold…

Well if Sanches is fit again, maybe we can tempt him back. We supposedly had a deal agreed with Lille.

Given where we were transfer wise last Wednesday, the outcome of one player in and keeping Neves and Traore in the last few days is pretty much the best that we could have reasonably expected.

Both the strategy and tactics used in this transfer window seem well short of what was needed. It seems as though the impact of finishing 13th in the league last year wasn't really taken into account. Losing to three top seven teams in the first three games would reinforce many players view that Wolves are mid-table fodder. The "Sell before we Buy" negotiating trick didn't work.

We are going to need a top half finish this season to make ourselves a little more attractive to non-Mendes clients. That is going to be tough with the squad we have today.

If Traore is determined to leave and refuses to sign a new contract, I expect him to be gone in January. Who'd be surprised if Spurs offer less than the £30 million that they apparently offered in this window.

We need a really good run of results between now and the end of the year to make ourselves more attractive in the January window. This includes getting results against the big six. Otherwise we will get stuck with the "mid-table fodder" label.

Who knows how it will turn out but I hope we see more of the enjoyable football we've seen so far with some goals and results to come.

Need to target young players that will be able to get us back into the PL after inevitable relegation.

I reckon we need a CB and a CM...

And a new recruitment team!
I started this as a bit of a sarcastic dig at the recruitment policy (or lack of) but no, it can stay.

I was really hopeful that lessons had been learnt from the previous three or four windows and that they were serious about backing the manager. They have failed completely and if we get any serious injury to Neves or Moutinho we will be relying on kids to step up. That worked well last season, didn't it?!

Players like Boly, Raul, Saiss, Moutinho, Marcal are not getting any younger and will need replacing. At some point we're going to have to have decent windows just to stand still.

It's not the end of the world, but we're going to have to start getting more windows right that wrong.

That said, if Mosquera turns into van Dijk and Cundle is a Moutinho regen we'll be fine!!

I'm not sure that Fosun will be looking to sell. They hung on at Thomas Cook until the end. If I remember correctly they even invested more (or lent more) to Thomas Cook shortly before it went belly up.

I suspect face is a lot more important in this situation than a few tens of million quid.

Fosun’s actions seem to have changed in line with the CCP response to Western Governments’ hostility to companies like Huawei. It wouldn’t surprise me in the least if they are looking for a buyer now the reality has hit home of what it takes to challenge even the top 6 in the PL, let alone reach the top 4.

I think that’s exactly what we’ll have at some point before January so the new owners can invest in the club and Fosun can max out their investment.

Everything is geared for it to happen.
You could be right. My post was half joking really, but given Fosun have had their Golden Tit moment it seems, new ownership might not be bad thing.

The current worth of Fosun International at 31 December was approximately £14.4 billion pounds. If it wasn't for the prestige of being shown on TV when he attends the very occasional match, I don't think Guo Guangchang would have any interest in Wolves.

If Fosun sell Wolves, it won't make any impact on their financial results but it would probably embarrass Guo.

Even if they sell for a profit?

Would that not be seen as a success?
