January 2022 Transfer Thread

Why are we being linked with Tanguy Ndombele on Twitter? Surely we wouldn't be able to bring him in? Would we even want to??

Clearly has loads of talent, but his attitude is terrible, and he's on 200k a week!

It's quite possible. Now, I'm no athlete, but heading for two years after catching Covid, I'm still not able to put things in and out of the loft without utterly exhausting myself.
I'm not much of an athlete either, but I do run and since having Covid in November running has been a struggle. I would generally average around 4 minutes 45 for a kilometre before Covid, now I struggle at 5 minutes 20 per km pace and I am out of breath very quickly. This could be down to running less anyway at the moment I suppose, but I'm almost certain it is as a result of having Covid.

I had same experience. Dreading trying to get started again this week really too!

He's been absolutely pish for Mexico lately. Lycan will probably have to let us know if that's carried over to his club form.

He basically downed tools when Porto rejected bids for him before the 20/21 season. Been dreadful ever since, barely gets a game any more.

Weirdly Boly has been named on the Ivory Coast bench. Pretty sure he isn’t there though?!

Struggle to see how we get any ‘real’ money for Boly and also how anyone could disagree with us letting him go/selling him. This is his fourth season here and in reality hasn’t been someone that we could rely on since the first.
I appreciate that not all of this is his fault by any means, but I struggle to see him figuring going forward regardless.

Jonny's record is not dissimilar in many ways, but it strikes me that he has the desire or intent to be a part of what we do going forward.

I caveat all of the above with me having no knowledge of what actually happens within the club or at Compton on a daily basis. I do have some contact with Matt Perry but nothing that confirms the above

I no longer pay attention to the Championship. Who is playing there that could probably make the step up, Jarrod Bowen-style? Always feel it’s an avenue too many clubs overlook

Dion Sanderson.

He had a reputation for being somewhat of a 'free spirit' which I guess Nuno managed, maybe Bruno wasn't prepared to put up with this attitude.
He's always come across as very laid back, or is this something else?

Bruno wants us to play a higher line, including keeping Coady up in line with Saiss and Kilman rather than deeper as he did under Nuno. I recall it being said by some of the players that Boly could go walkabout without Coady staying in his ear. Maybe Bruno feels that Boly can't keep up with the tactical pace of playing a higher line?

Said before, though; if this is really the end of his time here, I'm glad we never saw his performances massively deteriorate. I don't think I can remember a single negative defensive play that Boly was at the center of. He's been exactly what we needed exactly when we needed it.

A little harsh this.

This is Boly's fifth season here, not fourth. He had one small injury lay off in the autumn in the Championship, was a virtual ever-present in 2018/19 and pretty much the only games he missed in 2019/20 were due to a broken leg, which is hardly his fault.

Granted he has missed/been unavailable for far too many games in the last season and a half. However we aren't going to get anything like value for a 31 year old who hasn't kicked a ball in the league for eight months. If we can get him fit and back to something approaching his best I'd rather keep him, we're already light in terms of numbers in that area. Especially given we only seem willing to spend what we can bring in, the chickenfeed we'd realise from letting Willy go would buy us nothing, unless we fancy giving Stears a second emotional return.

Apologies, I had ignored the Championship season [not deliberately]. I suppose my point was that 'if' we were to get a decent fee for him then we should take it. I can't see that [as I said] and so if we did I couldn't see how anyone could suggest we turned it down.

I would be very surprised if he makes 50 more top level appearances in his career, here or anywhere else. However, if the offer is derisory then I agree: get him fit and keep him - unless of course he has become disruptive around the training complex.

Guess part of it depends on Willy, too. Will he be happy as fourth choice CB? Possibly fifth if we bring in someone new? And then there's Yerson to come back...

He may want to be a starter somewhere. Get back in the Ivorian squad before the World Cup (I think CIV qualified?).
