Landmark Klaxon!

Not a Landmark Klaxon, but some more attrocious stuff from the E&S - https://www.expressandstar.com/news...n-council-bin-spin-is-nothing-but-pure-cheek/

So, we're moving to two-week bin collections. No big deal really. A lot of councils have already done it, and reducing landfill is surely a good thing, right? Plus, you can apply for a bigger bin if you're worried about filling the slim bins we got when they started the recycling program. What's annoying is that they are stopping the food waste (which will now go in general waste and fester for a fortnight encouraging rats etc), and we have to pay £35 if we want the garden waste collected. This is on top of raising council tax.

Anyway, we're not allowed to blame the current Tory Government for slashing council budgets - it's Labour's fault for causing the global financial crash by spending money in the 2000s!!

FFS - not a facepalm big enough!

Had fortnightly collections down here for many years though food waste is still done weekly regardless of what else is allowed to be put out

Garden waste has always been a charged for service - though all the time I can fill other containers up & drive it to the local municipal dump thats cheaper than using that service anyway.

Then again I'm a single person household so no way of filling the bins in 2 weeks anyway so if I miss putting the bin out it will do a month without any issue - younger families with children would have more issues.

This isn't a specific party issue & has never been - we only have Tory councils here as not sure that anyone else is allowed to stand!

The last line in that story! What is happening now just shows what world we would live in if Corbyn won? How the fuck does that make sense

So every bad decision can now be blamed on Labour past and possible future?

That's a horrendous article.

South Staffs is on the same cycle as Mark describes, recycling one week, general waste the next. Somehow we manage to survive.

I live in one of the safest Conservative seats with a Conservative council and have had bi-weekly bin collections for a few years. I also have to pay a yearly fee to have the green bin emptied...I would say that it is more a case of "What is happening now just shows what world we would live in if we continue to elect the Tories"

It's an annual £35, not £35 every time you want your garden waste removed ???

Yeah, sorry might not have made that clear.

In my case, it's the same thing :icon_lol:

I have quite a large garden, but a lot of containers & a hatchback car so with the seats down can pile in a lot for each trip

The cost here would cover at least 15 trips per year v petrol cost & no way will I do that

The comments on that article - what on earth to people put in bins to fill them up every single week? Stafford has been on fortnightly collections for years; we are a family of 5, one of whom wears an awful lot of nappies, and never have problems lasting 2 weeks.

Is it a comfort thing for you? ;)

Admittedly I live on my own, but in Nov/Dec I was a dumbass once and forgot to put the general waste bin down one week, then a fortnight later we didn't have a collection due to the snow. So six weeks' worth of rubbish by the time it was collected and I don't think it was even halfway full.

I'll set them up, you knock them in

I still get weekly collections (garden waste is fortnightly). I suppose there has to be one positive thing about living in Sandwell!

We fill our regular bin every week, as long as we get a bin double the size we’ll be fine. We nearly always fill the recycling bin as well but that’s probably down to Honest Brew boxes and fuck loads of beer cans.

Suppose it depends on your bin size, we have these:

You've got to be going some to fill one of these in a week.

Our regular waste bin is the same size as that green one I think, hard to tell from a photo. Our recycling bin is twice the size. We can just about fit four bin bags in our regular bin.

You are gonna need to cut down then... the green is the regular waste one, probably does hold about 4 large bin bags.

We’ll just get a bigger bin.
