Landmark Klaxon!

Shamefully I’ve had to fire up Google maps to see where we are talking about, drove under them hundreds of times over the years and never noticed the bridges had the adverts on ( in my defence I was driving, so had other things to be looking out for)

Someone needs to open a business and call it Strykers, regardless of what they do. Huge free advertising opportunity

Got a Mr Shi on the phone for you...

Lidl planning to build on the old Strykers site (that bridge advert for Strykers/Sega World on the Stafford Road is going to be there forever, probably confused Adama when he signed for us)
Brother always says we need to go to Sega World every time we drive under it...

don't think I have seen these images before. the upgrade, whilst over budget and time does look good. the civic is still (imo) one of the best concert venues out there, and I've really missed it.
Only downside (for me) is the running of the venue being sub contracted out.
I don't go to many gigs anymore, but went to see Bloc Party at the O2 in Brum recently, and it was frankly shite compared to what it would have been at the Civic. Sound quality was awful (support act was a wall of saturated noise and Bloc Party were too quiet) , there are pillars in the way, bar in a shit place, decent viewing positions are very limited and the atmosphere was crap. I don't think Brummies know how to enjoy live music as it's not in the fabric of the city.

I just hope we can attract some decent bands again once it reopens.

Be good to see the Civic up and running again, mind you I've been to gigs there when the sound was crap, although that was probably more due to prima Donna guitar players having their amps turned up to 11.

Last gig I went to there was, I think, Fleet Foxes, which was superb.

As long as KKs steel mill keeps going (great venue, good beer and food at reasonable prices) and we have 2 quality venues in town it’ll be great

Kks has the pillars issue, but does have things going for it.

I refuse to go to brum academy. I'll travel elsewhere if a good band has brum academy as their only west mids gig. Agree with all your frustrations. My feelings are the same, only with more swear words.

Hummingbird used to be a great place in Brum, once you found it

Hummingbird had terrible sound/acoustic issues unless you were right down the front. Also, again pillars!

Can’t remember tbh, it was always an occasion to get excited about going to see bands there, getting the train over, hoping the pub you went into was alright and you weren’t going to get attacked

Brum is awful for music venues, I've not enjoyed any of them.

The Civic was a great venue, big enough to get a few bigger bands in and small enough to get a really good atmosphere. The acoustics were always spot on, I'm praying that it still works and that the new operators get it back on the circuit as a genuinely good venue.

There’s nothing prima Donna about turning the volume to 11. You need that for sustain. Turning the GAIN right up is what creates the wasp in a jam jar.

Tbf there's nothing wrong with turning everything up to 11, it just needs to be in balance.
