League Cup 2020/21

That famous easy road to Europe through a cup won by City (x5), United and Chelsea since 2013.

Doesn't even get you in the Europa League now either.

Which basically means that there's no chance that 7th will either.

I think the only way 7th could qualify is if we had five CL teams. Even then I'm not sure.

I don't mind that though. We have far more chance of finishing 7th (just done it two years in a row) than we do of winning the League Cup (not managed it in 40 years and counting, not even close, and the richest team in the country keeps winning it with ease).

So what is the point of it anymore ????

Use the kids and senior players in need of game time, no regular 1st teamers at all

It does get you in some new European competition
Yes, the InterToto Cup 2.0.

Don't get me wrong, I'd rather be in it than not in Europe at all, but I think of all the teams that would have played in it last season, we by far did the best.

Well much like the intertoto cup, the Europa conference is an easier route into the europa league than finishing in the top 6.

I watched Peter Broadbent regularly between 1953 and early 1965 (just before he left Wolves). He was a fabulous footballer, a schemer of the first order (I guess that term isn't used much today). He had a body-swerve that often left opposing midfielders on their arse while he waltzed by with superb skill. He could also score goals as well as make them. He played for England in the 1958 World Cup in Sweden, the one where Pele emerged as a top footballer. He would and should have played more regularly for England but when the player in your position is Johnny Haynes, the then captain of England, his chances were very limited. But Peter B was a superb artist on the ball. He was also a very good ballroom dancer and it showed in his intricate feints and body swerves. Later came Knocker Knowles, who subsequently gave up the game for his religious beliefs, whom many saw as the equivalent or even better type of player but for me Broadbent was the player who made the Wolves team of the 50s tick. What a team it was, with Bert Williams in goal, Billy wright at centre half, Bill Slater and Ron Flowers in midfield and Johnny Hancocks, Roy Swinbourne, Dennis Wilshaw, and Jimmy Mullen in attack. That's the team I fell in love with that has brought about a life-long devotion to Wolves. That team was fantastic and achieved such a lot. But the current team will, I think, eventually achieve a lot more.

Cant disagree with any of this! I still think he was on a par with Johnny Haynes, but the London press loved him and Fulham at the time and the selection panel was mostly southern based so Peter never really got the England recognition he deserved

In t'Northern side of the League Cup draw today. Around 2pm

Think its no seeded teams, so we can play any of the teams listed. 3rd Round draw also being done today as well

Hope we take this seriously. As Brian Clough always said, the most important trophy he ever won was the first one. Or some famous manager. But the next stage in the journey is to win something

We will take it seriously but changes will happen simply down to how the Cup is being played throughout September

It won’t be Villa levels of rotation but it’s not going to be a first XI. Based on our current squad Ruddy, Bennett, Coady, Kilman, Donck, Jordao, Podence, Neto, Silva is a side that will be competitive against anyone in that draw. If the rumours are true then that reserve side is only going to get stronger too.

We can take it seriously without using most of our 1st team in the early stages, personally I think its a really useful competition for giving our 2nd string players game time and experience

Just know it’s going to Albion or Villa

I'd make 11 changes from the Sheff Utd team if we can, so Silva, Podence, Neto and whatever we can make from those still here/joined in 10 days time

Emotional return for Batth, Afobe, and Steve Fletcher.

I'm picking the team already for that

Ruddy
Esteves Leite. Coady. Kilman (if not on loan). Marcal
Donck. Jordao (if not on loan)
Neto. Fabio. Podence
