Leeds 2-1 Wolves: Verdict Thread

It’s not all bad because we’ve got some very good players and it looks like we can play 4 at the back. I think our current forward options all offer something but they don’t really offer goals so Mr Sellars needs to provide someone who can score.

Started well today, then struggled to keep the ball as both full backs were too deep and passive on the ball but the front four didn’t always offer enough. Still should have gone in 2-1 up with Donk’s chance.

Both full backs and Donk were shocking with and without the ball in the first half and Sa was erratic.

Much better for 25 minutes in the second half, didn’t score and paid the price as we tired and the mistakes crept back in.

On Bruno, definitely not at fault today and he can definitely coach a side to play football, i think that’s obvious. Made lots of strange decisions at the end of last season and can without a doubt improve lots but some of the comments on him are outrageous still. Pretty sure i read a comment about him being a Portuguese second league manager at best etc… i just find it strange that him winning the top league over there gets no credit just because he had Joao Felix. Fosun need to back him so we can find out how good he actually is and whether he can get the team playing the football he wants regularly.

Rather than add more misery to the comments I thought I'd talk about the game.

For large parts of the game we played some scintillating stuff and done of the moment was excellent, right up until we get to the penalty area where our decision making is pretty poor.

But we did create chances and clear cut chances too. Donk should be burying his chance at the end of the first half. MGW, Podence, Neto should all be shooting rather than paying at certain points. But for a great last ditch tackle RAN is scoring when put clean through. Meslier makes some routine saves but a very good one from Neto.

Individual errors did us defensively today. RAN, Collins and Sa, all at fault for goals and Jonny was shocking first half.

But it was the first game of the season and out play showed some encouraging signs and I hope we stick with the style.

Lage has been shafted by those above him and I'll add my voice to the chorus of calling Jeff Shi out for the cunt he is. I hope he's hounded out of Wolverhampton never to be seen again.

Oh and Fosun can fuck off the fucking parasites.

I must have inverted vision with RAN because normally I don’t quite understand the hype with him but I thought today was his best performance in a while.
He was good for 25 minutes in our best spell but had no end product. Absolutely horrendous apart from that.

Well he gave the ball away for the first and absolutely hammered it past Sá for the second but apart from that I thought he was sloppy in possession in the first half and got caught out of position a few times in the second. Some nice bits of skill in and around the box in our good spell after half time but apart from that I thought he was really poor.

We've got a bit of a perfect storm gathering over Molineux, an extended run (since Villa in April) without a win, a very poor recruitment window, hubris and smug words from the top level of the club, a manager who is probably out of his depth and a set of fans who are becoming increasingly disenfranchised. This usually only ends one way...

We've started the season with the same weaknesses in the squad as last year (though Collins looks like a useful addition) and it's unbelievable that our bench contained no viable substitutes.

So where is Lagesse to tell us we don't know what we're talking about, there was nothing wrong with the bench and Jeff, Vinny and Scott are doing a magnificent job?

Agreed that comment was unfair, however there's a reason why he's our manager and being broadly accepting of the strategy - see yesterday's press conference for details is the largest one. He's not here on merit, but someone who was would walk. Maybe Nuno effectively did?

Club apologists are just fucking weirdos.

That cunt Danks is a club apologist, him and his brother are the type of twat we don't need at our club.

I don’t think he is accepting of the strategy, he’s constantly calling for new players. He looks frustrated but why would you walk from a Premier League job? Yes he’s not being helped anywhere near enough but he’s working with very good players in the best league.

You say he’s not here on merit but he won a league Nuno didn’t/couldn’t. Yes it ended with a bad spell at Benfica but they were still 2nd and they haven’t won the league since so maybe he wasn’t the issue. If the roles were reversed in terms of when Bruno and Nuno took over i do wonder if many would still be saying he’s not here on merit/he’s out of his depth. I think the bond Nuno created with the city/fans leads to some thinking to be done with the heart.

It's old ground, but Nuno took over a bottom half Championship side, there's a big difference. He's here because he's who Mendes and Jeff wanted - nobody else was interviewed, Nuno wouldn’t have taken another job in the Championship, Bruno wouldn’t have got another in the PL maybe than potentially Watford. Of course he won't walk, he's never getting another job like this, that's the point. I don’t doubt he's frustrated or that he thinks he's a patsy, doesn’t stop him from being one though. Always was.

He absolutely was the issue.

Nuno took over a bottom half championship team and was given Neves, Boly and Jota etc… We all know Bruno is here because of Mendes and probably wouldn’t have got many other jobs but some that will be down to the way teams recruit managers too, look at Lampard for example. Villa definitely looked at Lage when they were going to sack Smith in that first season back up too.

As i said above we know why Lage is here and we know he’s got limitations from last year but i do feel still he gets more criticism than needed purely because of our frustrations with Fosun and their obvious deficiencies that are hampering the progress of the club on the pitch.

Being blocked by that insufferable cunt is a badge of honour.

None of whom would have come if he wasn't the manager, so that cuts both ways. Other than the one comment you picked up on I don’t think anyone has been critical of him today, more sympathetic than anything. I still don't think there's many PL managers that would have accepted the hand he's been given across what is now nearly 3 transfer windows without walking though. The club know he won't and therefore can continue to run the recruitment policy as they do

The only criticism I can have of Bruno today is that in the first half we looked completely unprepared for what Leeds threw at us. I know the formation probably had to change at late notice with the Moutinho injury but even still, we looked all over the place.

He identified the issues and sorted it out 2nd half but it started to unravel again the longer the half went on.

Lage has kind of a free pass at the moment, the football world know he hasn't been backed. When we have spells of looking good or if we do get some results he'll get credit for it.

Like I say, from the top to the bottom everything is wrong.

There are a few good things like Neto and Neves but they are a hangover from better times and will soon be gone.

We are like a premier league version of Birmingham City.
